Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

Have to see more samples. For those coming towards the camera the worse are the old reflector headlights causing a lot of lens flare. I usually catch the plate as they turn (and turn the light off axis from the camera). Tesla have no lens flare but then many of them have no front plate even...

Maybe turning off hlc helped too shrug. Same car coming and going, the going was also the most challenging from right turn right away

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

So 1/2000 was too dark even with 60 gain and 100 iris. The plate was alot of gain noise. Dial it down to 1/500 and 50 gain and seem to have good result. Not sure if this was a fluke or not. Have to see if this is consistent. The worse capture rate has always been car coming from the right...

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

Will try that, I also change the shutter from 1/500 and 1/1000 to 1/2000. Before it's just too dark at 2000.

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

Reaim the IR illuminator it does help but still fit a disappointing rear plate shot (for some reason rear has always been worse than front) I forced the exposure to be the same to see the difference shutter was locked at 1/30 and gain at 50-50 and iris at 100 Z12 led and illuminator led off...

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

Try to set everything up by eyeball before our family plan, was a little bit off on my aim maybe a bit too low and a bit too left. Putting the kids to bed... Can go tweak after that. For comparison, just the z12's 4 led down this axis (watch the trees shadow) vs in addition to this new El...

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

For testing right now mounting the IR at head height so I can easily adjust it without hanging out the second story window. I'm just wondering if a more parallel IR path with the camera would be better or a vertically offset the camera vs IR so a angled reflection path would work better...

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

I know I need to mount the camera higher as I think a lot of the issue I'm suffering from are lens flare due to that section of the road is a slightly upward incline, shining the light into my camera. The lens flare hurt contrast a lot. For the IR emitter I can get slightly better horizontal...

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

Granted this proof of concept is only about 4 watt and 4 led, but there's no reason why this can't be use to convert the more led one. Z12 only have 2 far led anyway

Family help usually mean the more they help the busier you get, that's mainly due to the kids are young... looking forward to when the boy is older and I can actually teach "dad" stuff

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

Have some family plan tonight so I may miss the prime traffic hour in the early evening Any idea if I should mount it about 6 ft off the ground or from my second story window would get better result?

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

Theory seem to be holding. Waiting for night to confirm my el cheapo ir spotlight conversion is enough to supplement the z12 3 shots, all roughly aimed at the same place on my wall 1 - 60 degree lens that came with the illuminator. 2 - No (secondary) lens (very diffused look at the reflection...

IPC-HFW5231E-Z12 - What is the focus issue?

I would think aiming the LPR to the left away from the circle would be better, 1 cam can get both coming and going. pointing at the circle you risk missing the back plate due to angle issue.

The z12 is actually acting like very nice IR illuminator for my backyard lol

    problems with three new cameras

no, it was off by an hour DST... the cam would NTP sync to the right time, then the NVR would sync and push the time an hour off and crash the camera somehow

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

I read you, but It will be like $25 not even $80..... It seems I have borderline enough IR just from the 2 far and 2 near IR LED from the 5231E-Z12.... just need a touch more to bump it over the edge. I need something small and unobtrusive. I know the Amazon cheap illuminator will never cover...

    problems with three new cameras

Ok that's' less likely but still possible, on a switch that old the Power Supply can be failing, but again not likely with only 5 cameras. When you mention 3750 i assume it would be quite alot of cameras, otherwise wouldn't need something that many ports Are all the camera showing the same...

    problems with three new cameras

No, 10/100 should be fine, IP cam don't do gigabit anyway. If you take off all the new dahua cam but leave the hik on the switch, then add only 1 dahua cam does that cam work? now take off dahua 1 and connect dahua 2 to the switch, does dahua 2 works? same for 3? now connect 2 cam at a time...

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

If I can't dial it in, I think I can switch the LED's lens, I may try an el-cheapo 4 LEDs illuminator and get some 5 degree lens on ebay and see if that works

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

Way too pricey and bulky to get past the spouse! :D Their nano cube may work, but that's indoor only and at $132 still more than I want to spend (yes i'm VERY cheap) :D at that price range i think the black oak spot light is a better option at $108

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

even at manual I only have 100% not near/far, but again this is a z12 and not a z12e so that maybe why
  25. Bitslizer

How can I get better definition at further range when camera is next to porch light?

is this truly 45 degree? I'm searching for cheap affordable narrow angle one to throw IR out as far as possible, as low wattage as possible :D

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

It's already been updated to v16... Came with v10, neither have near/far. I mean physically there are 2 wide angle led and 2 long range led, but do not have separate control in the UI

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

I will try it tomorrow night. (Trying to see what I get from tonight's current setting) Question: why the extreme low sharpness? another thing is my z12 don't have near and far ir light option, is that limited to the z12e?

Need Help tweaking HFW5231E-Z12 for night @ 240ft

First of all, my minimum viable goal is human readable plate, ANPR capable output would be a bonus. Anyone have luck with such long distance and want to share their settings? Second, daylight is already good to go, although dawn/dusk would be hit or miss due to the challenging lighting...

Already try new firmware and factory reset plus multiple regular power off on. Also tried tapping it but didn't want to knock too hard and break something else. I literally have to hold my ears up to the camera to hear the iris opening closing
