***PSA for those with a New DAHUA NVR with Built-in PoE switch

OK, I tried to hook up my 5th camera to my NVR, and it does detect something, but it's not recognizing it like it does all of the other cameras. It assigns the camera to IP adddress 10.1.1.xxx while the others are 10.1.1.xx and numerical in order. The status is red, but it does list the device...

Caught My First Door Checker With My New 5442 Andy Cams

Thanks. I would think that might draw more suspicion, but I'm not a criminal, so what do I know.

Caught My First Door Checker With My New 5442 Andy Cams

Thanks for the videos and before and after comparisons. I've been impressed with the recent install of my 5442s, and I'm even more thrilled after seeing your comparisons. In regard to your videos, it almost looks like the guy is shining some sort of light on the door handles. Do modern cars...

    VPN Primer for Noobs

Still not working for me. I tried watching a ton of videos, but nothing worked. Calling it quits for tonight, but I'm not giving up.

    VPN Primer for Noobs

I just tried it again, and I'm still stuck in "waiting for server reply" land. I must be missing something.

    VPN Primer for Noobs

OK, I'm still a little fuzzy on how all of this works, but I did enable the DDNS on my router, which now has an domain name of MYNAME.tplinkdns.com Will that be where I go on the phone? You guys have been more than helpful here. I feel like I must be getting fairly close with this.

    VPN Primer for Noobs

Thanks. I must be doing this entirely incorrectly. I was trying to put in the same address that I have the NVR set to. I have no idea how to ping anything. My internet provider is Frontier, it's DSL. My wife's cellphone provider is Boost Mobile, which I think is owned by Sprint. Thanks a ton...

    VPN Primer for Noobs

I did not create a username or anything. So far, I've just checked the box in my router menu and generated the certificate; I then downloaded the app to her phone, and used the file from my computer to attempt a connection. She has Boost Mobile which is owned by Sprint I believe

    VPN Primer for Noobs

OK. We turned off the wifi, and when in the OpenVPN app, it just said waiting for server reply. I must be missing a simple step on this.

    VPN Primer for Noobs

Thanks. I know hers was on the wifi. For clarification, I don't use a cellular telephone at all. I just have everything working on my desktop at home. I'm pretty proud of that, given my skill set. I'll try it tomorrow with her wifi turned off. Thanks!

    VPN Primer for Noobs

OK it looks like my Archer A7 router will indeed do this. Per several youtube videos, I've generated a cert, exported it, sent it to my wife's phone, and opened it in OpenVPN for android. For some reason, OpenVPN says "waiting on server reply" the whole time. When I try to type the IP address...

Anyone having issues with electromagnetic interference (EMI)?

You should find a ham radio club in your area and see if they can offer any advice. They most likely have someone who could be very informative in regard to what you would like to do. They're quite experienced with interference. ;)

***PSA for those with a New DAHUA NVR with Built-in PoE switch

Huge thanks to the OP. This is exactly what I needed to get into the game with IP cameras. I picked up everything from Andy, and with the help of this post, I was able to setup a camera and test everything out. The only problem I had was that my IP address is not .1, but .0, so it needed to be...

    VPN Primer for Noobs

I guess I should have said, cheap and very inexperienced with all of this. If $60 gets the job done, then I will gladly cut my teeth along that route. Thanks for the suggestion though, I looked it up and the first couple pictures I looked at made it seem like this would be much more difficult...

    VPN Primer for Noobs

Will this thing work to get a VPN going? My wireless router won't support this without way more than $5x.xx of my trouble, and I'm very cheap...

Installing Dahua turret camera on garage wall - junction box, wall mount, direct? Ideas please.

I think there's a lot of stuff that's easy to miss with all of this. I've done none of it, but I've been thinking hard about my installation. I just came upon the fact that with the box or mount you can keep the fatter connectors outside of the dwelling.

Installing Dahua turret camera on garage wall - junction box, wall mount, direct? Ideas please.

If the wall in the garage on the back side isn't finished, I would think you could go right into the wall and have plenty of options for what to do with the cables in there? Are you guys suggesting the wall mount or the junction box just to keep the hole in the wall smaller?

Thanks a ton for that reply. I'm thrilled to get a few tips as it has already saved me a ton of time. I was just getting down to Reolink in my research, so I'll certainly skip that one now. I do have extensive experience with pro cameras for sports and event photography, so I understand that...

    New Here

I'm new, and I'm here because I had some kids kicking my car yesterday. We're under a lock down for the Corona virus so kids are already causing trouble in the hood. I'm doing some research, but I'm also left with a lot of questions. I'll probably make a thread later today regarding my situation.
