    Home Automation, Lights and Locks.

I leave my urban daily assault vehicle unlocked and with nothing of value in it.. come to think of it the vehicle itself ain't worth much. Sure does run well! Any one who wants to steal, damage will. We can only prevent to the best of our abilities. Neighbor once had a grand in damage to her...

    Planning : ALPR

Seems higher up, angle at 30* or so is often spoken but in reality when you look at vehicle mounted LPR and a system like the MPH900.. these are very much in line with the vehicle.

    Planning : ALPR

The computer is on the way. Just won it this morning. Just planning for now. Intend to get the basics set up, dialed in. Then start adding.. one project is never enough, right? And openALPR is intensive enough an RPi could not be a stand alone handler of the stuff?

    Planning : ALPR

Thank you. https://github.com/peters/openalpr-windows Not already done for me? And may be speaking at two different ideas. Sorry. You are speaking to having the brunt of the processing being offloaded to an add-on graphics card. If I am running an i7-6700, 16GB DDR3... could I keep it as it...

    Planning : ALPR

@nayr, that is all gibberish to me. I took a class on C+ 15 years ago? I'll need to look into it more. openLPR is not linux only is it? I will need to get a bit deeper. I actually should have good access to ALPR and traffic detection, monitoring, computation type stuff. I would prefer to know...

Is this a Gold Buy : Help?

I only ask as I cannot secure some of these great deals some folks are reporting.. or should I just go with Newegg? Lots of options there. In my mind I see me needing newer i7. Hefty RAM. Obviously a good start on HDDS and room for more. Plans will be about 8 cameras running to their...

I'm glad you are chiming in nayr. I went through your build. So the coding you did to allow a stand alone video card to do the heavy load of the software is not for Windows?

    Planning : ALPR

Some shenanigans in my neighborhood and I like projects: Seems a camera with a CS mount is common (IPC-HF5421E). I believe I can mount something very close to the road, however, and would not need a great big lens/zoom. The mailbox is right at the roadway where vehicles turn into... slow moving...

    Dahua IP SYSTEM

As an installer it is kind of a silly question but can appreciate the humility, too. Why that NVR? A Dahua NVR or Hik NVR? They will work best with their own brand. Look for which cameras fit your needs. Install them. You seem pretty set on type and stats.

    HDW4431C-A : Doorway Camera?

The 4431s come in a Dahua box with only Chinese text inside and out. It loads up with English settings, however. It's all good.

    HDW4431C-A : Doorway Camera?

I'm not recording yet. I'll try and take a snapshot from tinycam if any visitors sneak up to the door. The PPF is in excess of 120 at the walkway. I think there will be no problems with recognition.

Is anybody recording a desktop as if it were a camera?

That could kill it then for me. Gotcha! I ponies up the 3.99 for tinycam PRO. Well worth it. Nice program.

Using the free version of ispy? Just spend the few bucks and go pro?

I had one in my sights but maybe you outbid me! I am looking! Is there a particular seller you use? LMK!

    HDW4431C-A : Doorway Camera?

It is right for this certainly. Until something newer, cooler comes along. Even the boss is "happy" with the install and results. Now a PC to run BI to get all these cameras to work and on the record.

    HDW4431C-A : Doorway Camera?

Again, for this install, this works well. The PPF is very good, very high. 200PPF'ish. The lighting from landscaping is awesome IMHO and can always be tweaked. There is also a wall mounted lamp to the right that is turned off in the picture.

    HDW4431C-A : Doorway Camera?

Ah ha, I see. I did tinker and it really then becomes an issue of too much of another wall, the ceiling. The orientation it is in best suits my needs as I see them now. I want to catch folks as they even approach. I get them once they step foot on the walkpath to the front door. Other cameras...

    Just ordered the IPC-HDW4431C-A

Mine is installed in the corner. It works well, obviously it has a wider view than a corner (FOV > 90*) BUT it does a super job at first blush. If it could be installed just above a door, it would probably be even better. I like mine out of the way so and mounted it in the corner.

    HDW4431C-A : Doorway Camera?

I'm not sure how to take your post. The corner is 90*. If the FOV offered by the camera is >90*, it will be too wide no matter how the camera is oriented. The best approach, short of a custom lens which only captures the scene without the walls, is to put the main focus of the camera on the...

    HDW4431C-A : Doorway Camera?

@Del Boy, @Kawboy12R 2.8 seems only a bit wide.. I guess I would just have to see about going up a bit with lens to see if it provides any better coverage. I am waiting to hear back from the eBay seller if he has them in stock. I learned on AliExpress that sometimes things are not in stock...

Looking to build a IP based camera system for home.

What kind of home do you have? The chance to pull wire may not be so daunting. Buy a set of fish sticks and go to town! For ease, you thought about just doing an NVR? I just started my kit.. used an inexpensive POE from Amazon, pulled my own Cat6 I got for a steal from Craigslist, termination...

    HDW4431C-A : Doorway Camera?

2.8mm installed. I am not sure a 4m would do what I want. I want to see the walk, too. The 2.8 allows that. Things are so near, the PPF are nearly 200!
