HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

Did you create the vlan using the UDM? There would be a firewall rule or traffic rule in there somewhere. If the vlan is create by some other device you'll need to look at the configuration on there. EDIT: maybe something like this... Action: Allow Source: <UDM Device> Destination: Local...

    POE Question

you're at the limit of line length for data continuity. The camera may well be pulling power, but if it can't send a data signal the power won't matter.

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

I came across these the other day. https://ui.com/us/en/camera-security/special-devices Those multi function sensors and the poe lights look particularly interesting.

Putting BI and cameras on vlan subnet, but using BI server on main LAN

It won't do that unless you configure it to do that. Two network connections of different subnets as you have done is the general setup advised by those here that use it.

Alternatives to Dahua (NVR) web plug-in?

You can manage what you need via SmartPSS, but i think they've discontinued that now in favour of SmartPSS Lite, which i'm pretty sure doesn't allow management of the remote device.

    Turrets Mounted to Soffit

In Australia that's the standard in virtually every house. I used these for mounting my cameras to fibre cement (and then just use the screws that come with the anchors to mount your camera) https://ramset.com.au/product/hollow-wall-anchor-flush-finish/ Save yourself the heartache and buy the...

    POE Switch Question

What sort of routing functions? That's a different kind of switch entirely. You'll need and L3 switch for that.

    POE Switch Question

Most managed switches will just work straight out of the box as a switch. But if you're wanting to use vlans you'll need to configure the switch.

Not really the same thing as a power cycle though. If the hard reboot didn't work, you should still try the power cycle.

    POE Switch Question

Most of the ones i've used before have a GUI. Some of them are enabled by default, usually the small business range. Not so much the enterprise models.

    P2P Safety & Secure?

Subnet is currently 192.168.1.x I intend moving the cameras onto a new vlan soon (something i couldn't do with my old router), will be interesting to see if it still tries that subnet. My other cameras that are trying to reach out to the internet are going to typical internet addresses and the...

    P2P Safety & Secure?

My new annke fcd600 constantly tries to make connections to the IP address 192.168.252.2. 13 times in the last hour. What's interesting about that is that it's trying to do it via the wan interface.

HUGE RUMOR: Unifi Protect will support ONVIF cameras (like from HIK/Dahua)

Isn't this still in beta or at the very least still very early in the life cycle to be near enough to beta? I imagine there will be plenty of things not working as we would expect.

    Turret side mount outdoor?

I might two of my cameras exactly like in the first photo. They have some protection from the elements but not much. They're under a small overhang. Maybe 30cm. They've been out there for a couple of years now. Still going strong. Just keep the plug out of the weather and you should be right.

    POE Switch Question

Not always easy to configure either if you're using them as managed switches. I've never been very good at configuring via CLI. It just doesn't compute well in my brain. I prefer to use the GUI.
