4MP using H.265 codec
Couldn't you say the same about MPEG-2 vs H.264? H.264 uses less hard drive but it requires more CPU cycles so let's stick with less sophisticated compression algos. -
Questions re: Area of Interest
Thanks - the way that this camera is mounted the left 1/4 of the screen will have lots of motion from tree leaves/branches so I wanted to exclude it from the motion trigger area - and from the video recording as there is no point in recording a tree branch 4' from the camera.- wayner

On one of my cameras I am using the Area of Interest feature and the image is cropped to the AoI as I desire. Does this also mean that only motion within the AoI will trigger? Or will motion within the camera's frame of view but outside of the AoI trigger an alert. One other strange thing is...- wayner

So if cam1 is the camera shortname and 192.168.1.98 is the IP address of the BI server and 81 is the BI port then is the exact URL rtsp://192.168.1.98/h264/cam1 or is it http://192.168.1.98:81/h264/cam1 or is it something else? -

Yes, I am pretty sure that you can with the Generic Pipe encoder that was recently written to allow the capture of various types of streams. What is the URL or rtsp:// identifier I would use? -

One advantage with DHCP reservations is that you should have less of an issue with IP address conflicts as the DHCP server should not assign the same IP to two different devices. Another advantage to DHCP, although it doesn't really apply to cameras, is that you can do the DHCP reservations... -

Blue Iris - Website update
Because until I found this ipcamtalk website it seemed to me that Blue Iris may be dormant. The website seems to show lots of updates from 2014 onwards but it seems to stop as at Aug 2016. Going from the official BI website could lead one to think that BI is no longer being actively...- wayner
