Camera to capture license plates at 35-40 feet?

I would start with at least the Dahua Starlight 7-35mm HFW5231E-Z5. Zoomed all the way in, 115' away I am at the threshold of barely being able to read the plates (in the day time), so for you at 35-40', should be much easier. I would zoom the camera to the far left and try to get it at that...

Tip for experimenting with camera locations

Here's a pic testing an inside location. On this particular model of pole, the top plate is a ball/socket that snaps together, so I have a piece of rope just in case it came apart and to hold the network cable to not stress the cameras cable. It's very easy to now move the camera around and...

    New Dahua System Advice

    1) Confused. You mention Blue Iris but then also an NVR? If you do plan to get an NVR, I would recommend you stick with the same brand as the cameras to maximize features. 2) WD Purple 3) I buy bulk CAT6 cable spools off amazon, connectors, crimping tool, etc and just make my own cables...

Tip for experimenting with camera locations

I remember I had some of these poles laying around that somebody had left me from some old remodelling. Amazon.com: ZipWall ZP2 ZipPole 10-Foot Spring-Loaded Poles for Dust Barriers, 2-Pack: Home Improvement I screwed a small board to the top with just enough room to attach the camera and...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Bullet Z5 7-35mm (IPC-HFW5231E-Z5)

Got my Z5 temporarily setup on a ladder a few feet from where I was hoping to mount it. WOW. 75' away horizontally from the center of street aiming approx 45deg to the left towards the neighborhood opening where that distance to the center of the street is about 115'. Zoomed all the way in...

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

On another note, I've found a different way to deal with the IVS dropped frames. I played around with snapshots but didn't like that it's a pain to switch between recording and snapshots to see the motion activity on the timeline. It's really nice being able to record 24/7 and just have motion...

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

Sorry for polluting this thread, forgot there was a reboot thread. Updated to the ORIGINAL DH firmware on their website and the reboots stopped but still had dropped frames. Then updated to the Unofficial General firmware from Andy in the REBOOT thread and no reboots with that either but still...

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

Thanks. It starts wit DH. I've downloaded and installed it and now I see the logo. Looks like I didn't loose any settings. Everything looks the same so far. On another note, prior I had deleted all the IVS rules from the cameras and the rebooting stopped. With this new original firmware, I've...

So how can we get that version that you are using? Original Dahua? Is that what I download from the website?

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

Not yet. Crashed again. Now it's literally almost on the hour. This time I had disabled ALL IVS events. I was just recording continous 24/7 but did not have ivs enabled for recording or snapshots. But there was an ivs event in the log 5 mins before the shutdown/reboot. I've removed the...

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

So it's probably not a cooling issue although now with the case open and the bigger fan I'm rebooting approximately every 1-1.25 hrs. It seems to happen about 3-4 mins after an ivs event. This last time, I had switched to 24/7 continuous recording (not other events) and ivs snapshots.

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

But just a few posts above crazykiller states he is using the original firmware (same date I have) and he has no reboots.

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

Yup, that's what I'm seeing, 0x6f. I did not have a single reboot before getting ivs to work. I'm still wondering if it's a cooling issue. Wierd that it would happen almost every half hour and then after cooling it a bit more, it lasted longer. I now have a large 120mm fan on it and it's...

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

Disabling Display IVS rule didn't fix it. System rebooted again. Looking at logs, looks like I rebooted 3 times, almost every half hour since IVS started working. On a hunch, I pullled out the ir gun, with the case top on, the heat sink was avg'ing 120degF. I removed the case cover, now am...

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

100% Dahua right now. I hear a beep from my office, go out to check on it, and it's rebooted. I also have that same firmware date that came with the nvr. Out of curiousity does your nvr have that 'enable ivs' checkbox in systems - general that others seem to have? I am recording 24/7...

    Dahua NVR5216-4KS2 / NVR5216-16P-4KS2

Turns out my issue was I was not setting up IVS properly in the cameras. I did not realize I needed to right click to end the drawing of the rules. Once I did that, then clicked save, the lines stayed and IVS came alive on both the camera and the NVR. So even though I don't have that 'Enable...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

Unf#@#@##ing believable. I did not know I was suppose to right click to 'end' the drawing. You are awesome, THANK YOU. I now have a line that stays, I see it on my live view, it is triggering, and also the NVR has just automatically detected it all and now without doing anything I also see...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

I have an IVS rule created in the Camera's web GUI. I don't see any lines. I goto the camera's IVS screen. I see my one tripwire rule. It is checked. I click Draw Rule and now I can click on the live image and then I draw a vertical line, I click a second time, now there is a line with the...

How are you guys connecting to dahua cameras? I've yet to be able to get the IVS Enable button to appear on my system-general screen. has anybody figured that out? I reset the whole nvr. I've added the cameras, am logged into them, rebooted everything, but still nothing showing up and the...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

Is there any other thread that might provide better info on setting up IVS? I'm dead in the water with IVS. At this point, I want to set aside the NVR and just verify that the camera is doing IVS properly. How do I test that IVS is actually working in the camera? In the playback should I see...

Yes, I saw the pic on Page 1. I already have it taken apart. I see the SD card slot, but am I suppose to just slide card in or am I suppose to somehow flip up that cover. I remember another thread where he detail the different cameras and I think I recall something about how some you just...

So I'm trying to experiment with IVS. I've set it up in the camera. However, I can't seem to configure anything in my nvr5216. On the generals tab I do NOT have that enable IVS checkbox at the bottom like andy shows earlier in this thread. I have 7/21/2016 firmware. Others have same issue, yet...

10TB Purple drive came. Works fine with NVR. Opened up the nvr to install, wow is that motherboard small, the case is mostly empty and just space for the drives. Nice large heat sink on the chip. I have the single fan 5216 Non-POE. It's not silent. I wouldn't call it loud, but I don't want...
