    going by my mac i7 quad core 2.7Ghz, cpu just not get above 5% for live playback, however i have yet to get recordings to play in web browser, but iVMS does seem to work ok 3 cams simultaneous playback is about 20%.

    ok, should have said UK has to be the first. but i would never buy Chinese models, no warranty / support for UK. Not to mention the Firmware issues (flashing to english etc).

    E2/E4 is the old model's, the newer I2/I4 are model's that supports higher bitrates.

    Hikvsion NVR DS-7608NI-SE/P w. Foscam FI9851P (via ONVIF)?!

    i have DS-7716NI-I4/16P and 3 Y-Cam 1080p V2 cams, connected via ONVIF the cam's work for video, but i get no audio from the built in mic. apart from that it seems to work ok. I will need to think hard about replacing the Y-Cam cam's with HikVision ones in the new year.

    yeah, but updating to a 4K output HikVision NVR (the NI series), do not think will help much without 12MP cams. i have a DS-7716NI/16P and can't see much difference between 4K & 1080p as both upscale (either TV or the NVR)

    do not think 4k output would help, if the source is only 4MP to start, unless you buy some 4K (12MP) cams.

    you will better of buying the NEWER I2 DS-7608NI-I2/8P, as it support 8-ch (Up to 12 MP resolution & 4-ch @ 4K, or 16-ch @ 1080p)

    imo, synology SS on Safari is a complete waste of time, even viewing 3 x live 1080p streams eat's cpu, on my MacBook Pro 2.7Ghz (Retina Display).
