well, i'm learning as I go, but so far, I'm liking sebastian's settings over yours, nothing personal. I'm not done yet, this is an incremental process. Part of this is just the challenge of seeing what I can tease out of this $200 camera.

oh, when I had the iframe set to 15, same as the FPS, it looked awful, it was pumping from crisp to fuzzy every second. when I bumped the iframe count up to 60 (every 4 seconds at 15 fps), the pumping completely stopped. now, I was using the h.265 encoder, and thats a much more complex codec...

i'd rather have sharp slightly noisy than the really blurry stuff the 2D NR is showing me. I started with both at zero, and turned one up 10 at a time, then the other, then tried combinations. To adjust the exposure settings, I'll turn the noise reduction way down so the image is pretty...

ok, trying another set of parameters. lets see... h.264, 15 fps, 60 frames per iframe, 8192kbit/s video. manual shutter: 0-10ms, gain 0-75 exposure comp: 85 3D NR On, 3D=50, 2D=0 gamma: 100, Backlit: OFF this is grittier than the previous, but shows ok facial detail at 40-50 feet, and you...

oooh, maybe I should mount a flood on the TRAILER, out of the field of view of the camera, and aimed at those woods on the left. muahahaha. trailer has 12V dual golf cart batts, AND solar charging. except any such mount would have to be removable for travel, and of course wouldn't be there...

well, more light on the darker parts of the picture should help a lot. fyi, my blackout is using the overlay in the camera, NOT in blueirtis, for what thats worth,b ut I believe you re exposure. I'll have to play around with making a shield for the on-camera flood, but that likely will glare...

yeah, i just found that Z4E ... are there any non-zoom cams with that sort of focal length? I 'd hope those, at least, would have a more focused IR beam ? I still need to find a IR 'spotlight' thats like a 20 or 30 degree spot with reasonably even lighting across that cone. something I...

sure, but I'm good with just seeing they are there at the extreme, and having 'recognize' at around 60 feet. in both my videos its around 100 or 120 feet where i turn around. 150 feet is the road behind that, which I block out from motion detect anyways, as there's far too much traffic, it...

what size sensor is that chart for ? a 1/1.8" is going to be much wider at any given FL than a 1/3" or whatever.

Test video from my IPC-T5442T-ZE ...

12mm is not exactly a wide field on a 1/1.8" sensor. and I want to add more IR light, I just don't want bright white lights out there.

well, 50mS, thats 1/20th second, quite a lot of motion blur. I was using sebastian's recommended shutter/gain settings.

well, without the WDR off, the far side of the driveway is almost completely black, with it around 30-50, I can see details in the shadows, and tahts in B&W IR mode. tonight I'll play around some more with the settings once its dark. one thing, I dunno what BLC or HLC or SSA are, I know WDR...

The closest corner of my house is about 150 ft from the road. I want to see what comes in my driveway, and this chimney spot has the best vantage. I have a few other cameras under the eaves, watching the walkway to the front door and the garage area. I'm also trying to get the best night...

Note my vids in this thread are at max zoom, 12mm.... My little perp stroll takes me about 120 feet from the camera, I'm at about 25 feet when I 'peace, out' in the bottom right corner, and there's no light at all other than the ir illuminator

hmm. i thought higher 3D NR resulted in more ghosts/trails, as its time averaging ? gotta say its really scary how ugly this looks with NR entirely off.

ok, same sort of test walk, this with camera set for 15 FPS, iframe interval 60, H.265 CBR at 6144 kbit/s, brightness 73, contrast 72, 0-16.7ms shutter, 0-50 gain, 73 exposure comp, 3D NR at 30, 2D NR at 50, WDR at 50

so, I want a 850nm IR spotlight that will illuminate a fairly narrow cone, maybe 20 or 30 degrees (I need to measure this), to light up an area about 100 feet from the light. It needs to be properly weather proof as it likely will end up mounted on a pipe on top of my roof. most of what I'm...

I like the dark, so if I add any lights, it will be an IR flood, probably offset a fair bit from the camera and aimed at those trees on the left side of the field of view.

cool. setting my day settings per what you gave, but using WDR of about 25, is giving me good daylight shadow detail. WDR and the shadows are just too black, and if i bring up the brightness, the whites are too white. odd, but the gamma doesn't seem to do much, I frequently use gamma of...

well, up on the chimney where those cams are, shining directly down on where we park, it was nasty. in our faces as we had to walk in. this is from a similar FOV IR cam, picture that as white light in our faces as we walk towards it, no thanks.

May need advice: digging trench for retaining wall. I'm out of ideas other than manual labor

if you wanna break that lump up, its a breaker bar and a whole lot of sweat, or a jack hammer, and those big round river stones are NOT going to break, you're gonna have to chip them out of the concrete one by one.
