@looney2ns I went to back to page 8. So what you are saying is that based on those parameter I must just choose what is going to work best. Too bad the "cube cameras" are not outdoor cams. They would be perfect as they are small to have 2 or 3 clustered.

    Need thoughts on new camera

Guys I am trying to decide if it is beneficial to change between two cameras to look at the end of my driveway (property line) and cross a single car lane (20ft) at my parking spot immediately across. I have a 8MP Hikvision bullet 4mm installed which works well during the day and lets me...

Upgrade to NVR or continue with NAS

I am sure it is good, I downloaded it didn't like it, so I moved on. I would make the color scheme to it can be changed - maybe it can be changed, I looked and could not find out how. DW seemed very very basic - I give you that.

Upgrade to NVR or continue with NAS

I looked at BI and did not like the interface and it just seemed a bit dated although I am sure it is a great piece of software. I can't deal with the color scheme. I looked at DW offering, it was good but at the moment they do not have any native support for analytics or support in camera...

    Hikvision 4k Low Light cams

I realize I am a bit late to this thread but this type of new 8MP cameras seem to be a game changer by offering good high MP count and good night visibility. The question is will they perform better than a 4MP or 2MP Dark Fighter at night. Considering these cameras have a 1/2" versus a 1/2.5"...

    Just Sharing My Progress

yes HOA's need to get on with the changing times. I think Nest and Arlo have done a fairly good job educating folks. so what I have been doing is trial an error, but I see the value of a test rig even to compare cameras. Lets say at 4 vs 6mm or 2.8 at a certain location.

    Just Sharing My Progress

I would be afraid some would walk away with the rig and camera since we both work during the day. my HOA would probably also fine me - but I think what you are doing is great and the best way of doing it. how did you deal with the ethernet cable going to the outside while testing?

Change a Hikvision lens from 2.8mm to 4mm or 6mm?

The more I am getting into this and tweaking my setup the more I realize that what you are saying in very true and at the same time, that you almost need more than one or more than two cameras to cover the front of a property. What I have noticed that is that a 2.8 4MP or 8MP a good height (10')...

Change a Hikvision lens from 2.8mm to 4mm or 6mm?

Sorry to bring out this old thread, but this sentence caught my attention: "2.8mm outside is almost never useful" Why is this? I think the 2.8mm gives you a good overview doesn't it?
  20. F

    Just Sharing My Progress

well that is precisely why I was asking why you didn't got with the 2.8mm. But your answer makes sense. As long as you can see what you need to see its good.

    Dealing with the pigtails..

Thank you guys, I ordered two camera specific boxes. I will post a photo of what I want to do. The challenge is to eliminate bulk. I was using homedepot 4x4x2 electrical junction boxes and they are a bit bulky and I can only install one camera per box lid/face. So if I want to install two...

    Dealing with the pigtails..

Good Morning folks, I know the norm is to dirll a large hold in the wall or to install the camera on a j-box and drill a large hole on the face of the box. However, here is the situation. I want to install a camera in a location where I cannot do either of the two. The best I can do is in...

^ this is true. I think you are paying for the ecosystem in this case. They 4x zoom "pro" cameras are nice though but very pricey.
