Anyone running 8th gen Intel without memory leak problems in Blue Iris?

bp, is it recommended to use direct to disk in all situations for better quality? I haven't turned it on because of the warning about limitations on viewing clips that are being recorded (don't remember the exact text).

Blue Iris vs. Milestone XProtect (for me)

Pretty crazy huh? Considering how deep the features are of BI it's pretty amazing that it's a perpetual license for 60 bucks and unlimited cameras.

Blue Iris vs. Milestone XProtect (for me)

I had the same kinds of issues you did bp. Use cluster Fk of a program. I was looking forward to playing with it's "search" features but gave up before I even got my first camera working.

Seems like a sales pitch to me....with some typical grammar "mistakes".

Security Guard Shoots Robbers Holding Up A 7 Eleven With A Fake Gun.. "Am I shot? Oh fck Yeah!

I moved to California about 8 months ago to care for my father. Now that he's passed on I'll be moving back to Texas as soon as things are squared away here. Can't be soon enough :)

Security Guard Shoots Robbers Holding Up A 7 Eleven With A Fake Gun.. "Am I shot? Oh fck Yeah!

That scenario would result in the same behavior here as well, I'd guess. Remember that in the video above there were two suspects, both with guns, threatening the cashier. Deadly force was definitely warranted. In the car theft scenario if you shot a car thief who just had a screwdriver...

BI on older pc and switches, is it better to use a GB switch?

Well, I made that comment (about not connecting two cables) based on the assumption you were not segmenting them into different subnets. Since you are, and as I stated later in my post, that's fine. Also I was referring to connecting two cables on the same IP range/subnet to the same switch...

Security Guard Shoots Robbers Holding Up A 7 Eleven With A Fake Gun.. "Am I shot? Oh fck Yeah!

Looking at the video, and the blood stain on the guys arm, I'm guessing it's not staged... unless they staged the blood. Also the guard is acting fairly irratic and "unscripted" so I'm thinking it's real. Who knows though.

BI on older pc and switches, is it better to use a GB switch?

Definitely don't connect 2 cables from the PC to the switch. Only use 1. That is unless you have a specific use case for using the second LAN port (ie LAN segmentation). You could use one port for the camera network and another for the LAN itself with the PC acting as the NVR for NVR...

Security Guard Shoots Robbers Holding Up A 7 Eleven With A Fake Gun.. "Am I shot? Oh fck Yeah!

That's not the point. You don't shoot to disable. You shoot to kill or you don't shoot at all. Any law enforcement agency will tell you that as will any gun use training facilities. I never said "keep shooting until he's dead". There's a big difference between what I said and "murder"...

Security Guard Shoots Robbers Holding Up A 7 Eleven With A Fake Gun.. "Am I shot? Oh fck Yeah!

Disabling shot? Who teaches using a "disabling shot". If you are going to shoot you shoot to kill, period, center of mass. Highest probability of hitting your target. Trying to shoot for the shoulder more likely means you are dead after you miss.

Security Guard Shoots Robbers Holding Up A 7 Eleven With A Fake Gun.. "Am I shot? Oh fck Yeah!

In any sensible world he potentially saved the life of the cashier. Hero is what he is.

Anyone running 8th gen Intel without memory leak problems in Blue Iris?

For me it's a bit of a selfish reason :) My current server (power hog that it is) is a Xeon platform (dual E5-2650 v3) that doesn't support HD graphics. I'll likely be setting up a dedicated lower power system for NVR though so it will likely be moot at that point.

No video display when run as service

I ended up dumping ESXi on my Dell Poweredge T430 because the guest OS ran like shit, for me at least, compared to bare metal. iSCSI performance was reduced considerably (10GB connection) and Plex was much less effective at delivering 4k Blu-ray streams than bare metal. I wish it wasn't...

Army Rips Out Chinese-Made Surveillance Cameras

Certainly you could do things to prevent a leak... but is there a chance that something might happen to allow a leak to occur anyway? A firewall change that shouldn't have happened. A phishing attack that drops a piece of middlewhere somewhere that allows video to leak out. For the normal...

Anyone running 8th gen Intel without memory leak problems in Blue Iris?

There's probably a few ways to look at it. Since the leak appeared after Intel updated their drivers then it's more likely their problem. Since BI hasn't been updated to "fix" the leak, and I assume it would be if it was relatively easy (and assuming Intel doesn't have a bug), then my guess...

Anyone running 8th gen Intel without memory leak problems in Blue Iris?

I'd love to see BI support Nvidia CUDA/HEVC encoding/decoding. I assume Intel will address the problem in their chips but if we had support for Nvidia we'd have a lot more flexibility. Intel hasn't been great about addressing problems with their video drivers. I bought one of the Skull...

Army Rips Out Chinese-Made Surveillance Cameras

Being smart about security is as much about responding to threats as it is reducing the possibility of a threat. We don't know what we don't know. Also remember that this is China we are talking about. The government controls everything to some extent or another. Companies don't have the...

Army Rips Out Chinese-Made Surveillance Cameras

For most consumers they'd have no clue how to detect data leakage. For network pros sure it would be easy. That said we're talking about military installations here... I'd not want potential adversaries devices viewing our bases either.

Anyone running 8th gen Intel without memory leak problems in Blue Iris?

Gotcha. Too bad, I was really hoping I could use Nvidia HVEC acceleration. Looks like once I expand past a certain point I may need to build another system for my NVR. Thanks.

Anyone running 8th gen Intel without memory leak problems in Blue Iris?

BP, were you using an Nvidia GPU for hardware acceleration (rather than Intel integrated?) I posted elsehwere about this (ie if it works well with BI) but didn't get a response. I was thinking of adding a 1050 to my box since it's a Xeon based server and doesn't have integrated graphics...

Can someone take a look at my Notional Diagram...

I'm not an expert by any means but it looks to me like you will have lots of problems, such as with the 8 port switch which has two cables connected to the LAN ports of the first router. I believe this will result in a broadcast storm flooding your LAN unless they are isolated. As Tangent...

    Nvidia nvenc and BI

Wondering if anyone has any experience with running BI with Nvidia NVENC acceleration (vs Intel). I'm debating adding a 10 series (1050 most likely) card to my Xeon box to provide hardware acceleration as the Xeon's don't have integrated Intel HD graphics (at least mine don't). I have plenty...

    BI running on a new i9-7980XE (18 Cores, 36 Threads) = NICE!!!

I'm really curious when you say you had a "beefy" water cooler setup that couldn't keep up yet an air cooler could? It shouldn't be that way unless you with had the water block installed poorly or your radiator was far too small.... but that said even a single 120mm fan on a good radiator, and...

Cams work directly to router -- not through switch?

What do you mean when you say the router does not "see" the cameras? Can you be more specific on what doesn't work? In other words are you saying that if all devices are connected to the switch and the switch has one of it's ports connected to the router... then the cameras are not visible...

    Is my SSD dying?

I never said you did... however he clearly was so it's not really an issue of keeping an open mind about the cause of his issues with that drive. It's been used very heavily which is likely put it near it's EOL. It's also a 750 Evo which is already an old model to begin with.

    Is my SSD dying?

Yes but you need to be clear on how those SSDs are used. He's rotating video constantly on those drives which WILL shorten the life expectancy.
