    POE Cameras vs NON POE

I agree with @SouthernYankee for me and my decision to go with a full POE setup was for the ability to have the switch and NVR or computer with the recording software hooked up to a UPS allowing for extra recording should some idiot think they can cover their face and go switch off the power...

Can not connect via internet after installing TP-LINK Switch.

Yeah I changed the defaulted IP to be 192.168.0.2 so its one above the router being 192.168.0.1 the weird thing for me is it works if I put the iMac IP in the DMZ setting but I already have the ports forwarded in the router to work. Think I will need to do more testing to try figure this out.

Can not connect via internet after installing TP-LINK Switch.

To follow up I have identified that although I have both ports for SecuritySpy HTTP and HTTPS port forwarded on the router if i put the IP of the computer holding the NVS software into the DMZ setting in the router IT THEN WORKS

Can not connect via internet after installing TP-LINK Switch.

So I use SecuritySpy and have a TP-LINK AC5400 router. I was able to connect from the internet to SS before but now I have installed a TP-LINK switch TL-SG1016-PE and connected the computer running the NVR software and the camera to the switch. After doing so I am no longer able to connect...

Help Surv Co Owner Design his home system?

That looks good. Biggest question though having the lights on all night do you have a bug problem or do you do something to combat the bugs drawn to the lights? And don't feel bad about the leaves mine isn't much better but the darkness hides it. I just finished installing my first camera (very...

Help Surv Co Owner Design his home system?

Thats great I am happy to help. Back to your 5541H-AS-PV at the front door you said you have lights at the front door so its always in colour. Do you have motion sensor lights or do you keep lights on overnight 100%. Just curious because it is all stuff I am thinking about. If your willing I...

Help Surv Co Owner Design his home system?

Logging directly into the camera via a web browser to the cameras IP address under CAMERA - AUDIO is the main stream enabled and the built in mic selected and not the line out as I notice on that camera it has the line in / out while also have the built in mic. Also in your recording software...

Help Surv Co Owner Design his home system?

@CastleSurveillance at your front door is that the Pro-AI Series Active Deterrence model with the LED light and the IR? If so did you get the 2mp or 5mp version? Do you have it set up to watch at night with the IR but on motion to activate the LED effectively giving you a nice colour shot at...

    Varifocal Understanding

Mate that's the best reading I have had all night. I have got it. Appreciated the link to @aristobrat share as well. I saw some great examples of test rigs on here. I was thinking just estimating the horizontal field of view was enough to determine but you have made me realise repurposing...

    Varifocal Understanding

I understand the lens size affects how "zoomed in" the picture looks for example 22mm is very zoomed in compared to 2mm a wide angle. Where I am having trouble is truly understanding varifocal. Does varifocal only mean the lens can be moved from one to the other effectively zooming (either...

Mac or Windows (Security Spy vs Blue Iris)

I had the previous version so paid for the discounted upgrade of SecuritySpy. It is ok for just a couple of cameras but when you start to get up to completely surrounding your house with cameras yes I fully agree the pricing structure is horrible. This was also one of the reasons I was starting...

Mac or Windows (Security Spy vs Blue Iris)

So as the title suggests I am considering to stick with my fully mac apple house or run my network cameras from a windows machine. I have both options available so buying new hardware is not a problem. I just wonder.. Is there anybody who has used SecuritySpy for mac and converted to Blue...

Is more reliable to have a alarm system than a dog?

We have a dog and she turned out to be the most opposite to what you want a dog to be for protecting the house, she is however very loving so although she looks the part she is more scared of any noises even wind. in her defence we did get her as a rescue dog so so she was previously abused...
