IP2M-841 returns to preset on its own

This cam seems to have a "home" that it returns to whenever it wants. I caught it moving between presets during a rainstorm but it doesn't have tracking that I know of. I've played with different softwares but it mostly runs on SmartPSS. If this is a feature I'd like to learn to take advantage...

How do I turn off audio when I save footage?

If you can learn Blue Iris - you can master any video editor :) and they are super easy anyway. from the legal perspective I have to wonder if there is another solution because if altered it would no longer truly be "evidence grade" sometimes the solution is posting that the area is under...

    Ebay 4TB WD purple drives

was just thinking that we are encouraged to buy old computers to run as our servers and this is a part that is easily changed out. But I am really curious as to where these likely come from and old DVR's are a likely good bet. I've had regular hard drives spinning 24/7 that have lasted me 10+...

    Ebay 4TB WD purple drives

Thought I'd take a look at these drives on Ebay while in there and noticed a lot of Used drives also. I am getting the impression that these are drives that folks have taken out of old DVR's and have to wonder if they would still be okay to use for surveillance. Assuming that these used ones...

Where did these tires come from?

It would almost as funny if they found their way home in the middle of the night. But your plan is safer and requires less effort.

Combine POE with non POE switches

Thanks guys. I have a POE switch for the POE cams but some of the indoor cams do have their own power supplies and I wanted to keep any POE slots open when possible for future POE cams. I grabbed a non-POE switch for a buck at a garage sale and even snagged 2 old routers for a buck too. Thought...

Combine POE with non POE switches

Searched here and googled a bit this morning already and either find none or conflicting information. With a mixture of POE and non POE cams and switches - does it matter if the POE switch is before or after the non-POE?

    Pandemic threat? Anyone else concerned?

I'm going opposite of the radical predictions - less than 100 dead in the US this year and certainly FAR less than the regular flu.

Anyone tried this? HDView Starlight Color Night Vision, 2.8-12mm, Sony Starvis

Two thoughts: I like the camo job on your pipe - a few grey spots where the mortar is in between the bricks and it would be invisible. :) I wonder if your initial setup and subnet issue wouldn't have happened if you used their install disk. I clone my machine every night instead of backup, so...

Is this Amcrest budget camera worth it?

I like the mini PTZ's that Amcrest has but I know their sensors are not the same as the Dahua's. If we are really talking about security and identifying people then I go by the saying we have: "Buy Once, Cry Once". Besides, Average the cost out over the few years that you will be using it and...

Amcrest logo can no longer be removed?

You think like I do. Whenever I have bought a new car, I remove anything relating to the dealer - usually a license plate holder or tag on the back. Had a guy approach me at a gas station once while traveling and it was uncomfortable that he knew right where I was from. I also don't wear any...

    ALPR setup advice (see pictures)

I am not seeing a choke point here to slow down the vehicles either, so high speed may require that you have less of an angle than a house mounted cam can overcome. You may want to consider a POE tree mounted cam also.

Switch from WiFi to Wired (just by plugging in Ethernet cable)?

I attempted this with an IP4M-1051 and when I got to the "Static" button - it cannot be pressed unless you switch over to IPv6 (which I wasn't going to do with my very limited networking capabilities). I did notice that just plugging the wire into a switch and into the camera did eliminate any...

I'm not seeing 5231-ZE anymore ... is something newer recommended?

It's just the impression I get from reading the wiki items and a LOT of comments on this forum. I'm all about getting the most bang for the buck, so I keep an open mind for any newer & better information that is posted. Some comparative reviews from actual users would be awesome since I never...

I'm not seeing 5231-ZE anymore ... is something newer recommended?

This is most certainly a knockoff even though one of them says it has the English version. I can't find that exact model # at Andy's store either which is usually a big tip off for me.

C'mon - y'all need to be positive and see the upside of this. The air pollution rate in China has dropped 25% so far. And look at that traffic in Andy's picture - sweet.

    You be the judge.

If it were me, I would put it on a USB and offer it up to the PD with your Aunts case # and forget about it. In about 2 weeks a detective may call and ask for it. You could give them the plate # as suspicious and if they care, they will get back to you (likely later than you think)

IP Camera Suggestion for reading licence plate from tree?

It is my understanding that you can do most anything you want in the easement but if they need to tear it up (for maintenance or something) then you just have no recourse. After all, you are maintaining their grass for them :).

IP Camera Suggestion for reading licence plate from tree?

My own concern with putting a cam too near a street or sidewalk (and needing it low enough to be effective) is that the IR is still a visible red light that a pedestrian may want to investigate or mess with. Although you would certainly get a good video of their face. Folks are less likely to...

Amcrest Surveillance Pro 2.0 Beta (Windows)

Used PC or server for Blue Iris

Why 256 for a dedicated machine ? Win10 only takes about 20 gig and certainly BI only takes a few gig if that. I've been considering SSD's for a dedicated BI machine and just can't figure out the need for a large one. Thanks.

    OS upgrade

It's good to be prepared to reinstall everything but . . . I just upgraded one of my Win7 machines to Win10 and it didn't affect any software at all. It was an upgrade and free too - and not a clean install of Win10. Are you certain that reinstalling everything will be necessary?
