So need more time to test them all but just tested cable 3 and the 1 to 8 lights all cycle through in order on both the main and remote tester so all seems OK there. No I didn't use the entire remaining cable, I just cut another 35-40 inch length and used that. In terms of tester, I have something like this if that's what you mean by continuity tester? I haven't tested the cables using it but I can do... And re link speed, unfortunately I didn't check...- freddyq

I took some new cable from my reel and crimped from fresh, this time I made sure I got the outer jacket well inside the connector and under the gripper. Once crimped, it felt a lot sturdier than the other cable as a result...- freddyq

The issue with the IPC-T5442TM-AS is it's fixed lens. Is there a 4-5MP turret style cam out there with varifocal lens and 1/1.8" sensor?? Feels like this type of cam would be ideal for the front of my house...but I haven't come across one! -

Yes I do like the look of those pass-through style connectors I think they will provide more assurance of the wires being correctly in place and also ensure I can get the cable jacket under the gripper in the connector which keeps it in place. Quick scan of the specs shows it's very very similar to the HDW3541T-ZAS. I don't know enough about the Dahua model naming convention to know if the model number gives clues as to the differences.. -

Yea I've always tried to get the outer jacket to end up under that gripper but I've only managed it on a few occasions. I've seen some connectors which allow the wire pairs to pass straight through the other end - I think I'll get those next time as I think they will make it much easier to...- freddyq

Ah right - I think I am leaning towards re-crimping the cables anyway because I'm not 100% convinced the connectors I've used are best for the solid core cable I've crimped them onto. I will find a small pack of connectors specifically for solid core cable, crimp those on and then re-test...- freddyq

I'm not sure how much is still unused on the drum to be honest but fairly sure it'll be less than 100m. I think what you're getting at is that the whole drum might be faulty?
