    Computer for Blue Iris

I would not assume you can simply re-install Windows 10 with no disk. The system would have had to have Windows 10 previously. Not all did. There is a decal on the bottom on the unit that will indicate if it had Windows. Then you can install a new hard drive and use the Windows media creator...

what microphone works with the Dahua camera? does it need a source of power or is it powered by the POE in the camera?

I didn't have great luck with the above mic. When placed within a foot or two of the camera. (all you can do unless adding additional cable) I had feedback and noise. May have been just the mic I had, or the camera, or both. I picked up a cheap mic off ebay with a longer cord and it's been...

Used HP computer with Intel VPro

Thanks. I was actually considering one for general purpose business tasks as well. I'd prefer AMT turned off and have read of folks having performance issues when it is.

Used HP computer with Intel VPro

It seems the used HP elitedesk and prodesk models I'm seeing utilize Intel VPro/AMT. I've read some of the security issues with VPro. Anyone have experience with it good or bad?

    What should I pay for EliteDesk, 800-G3 , i5 7500 3.4GHz, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Win 10 Pro?

The Elitedesk 800 G3 similarly equipped seems a bit more plentiful at the $300 range. Processor is a bit slower i5 7500. Not sure of any other differences. Any opinions on the G3?

    Better performance?

I'm okay if this is the best this camera can do for this application. Just wondered if there was anyway to smooth out the video a bit. Any camera suggestions for this application would be appreciated!

    Best Tablet to View Cams

Apple, Android, Windows, regardless... What would give the best video performance? I'm thinking android but am open to any format. Besides format, are there best practice screen resolution and processor speeds to look for? Is it beneficial to go for the top of the line units vs. entry level...

    Better performance?

I'm using a Dahua DH-IPC-HFW2831T-ZAS. Optical zoom is at 100%. I'm also digitally zooming about 4x additional. Video isn't as smooth as I would like and I'm not sure if it is the limitations of the camera I'm using or a setting. Here is a screen shot of my video settings: Here is a short...

    B&H Photo

I find that pretty interesting. I know there are a number of resellers. The folks at Nelly's seem to offer great support for their re-branded equipment. Is there any real benefit to buy Hik branded items from B&H?

    IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E vs. IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E

Looks like low resolution. 1.3 mp? Also looks discontinued from what I found when googling it.

    IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E vs. IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E

The Amcrest cameras look nice. There is a Dahua 25x that's been well reviewed here for around the same price. Early on, my thought was to go with a turret PTZ and use it for more than just this feeder. At the height I would want to mount the camera, I don't feel I can get an adequate angle to...

    IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E vs. IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E

Interesting. Is there somewhere that shows the designation for a number in the last set of model numbers/letters? Such as Z4E? I have the one in the Wiki. Almost looks like the last part of the chart is cut off. It looks like the Z4E is a 4x zoom? 8mm-32mm

    IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E vs. IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E

I entered the closest model number IPC B5442E ZE into the (IPVM Camera Calculator V3) and it showed 13.9 feet field of view at 16 feet away. Haven't played with the circle calculator.

    IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E vs. IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E

This is to view a bird feeder. The camera will be mounted 16 feet away from the feeder. The field of view I want to limit the cam to will be 2 to 3 feet. (The width of the feeder)

    IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E vs. IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E

Style of the camera isn't that important. The cam will be mounted 16 feet away and I need the field of view of about 2-3 feet wide. It appears that a 12x zoom is about right. At least for the cameras in question. I'm not opposed to other models at all. Just want to end up with a cam that does...

    IPC-HFW5231E-Z12E vs. IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E

I was interested in the 5231 variant of this camera and Andy suggested the 5241 instead. He felt it was newer and more stable. I know there have been issues with focus at full zoom on the 5231. I've looked at both units and the only difference that I can see is that the 5231 has 60 fps and the...

    Camera aesthetics

I can see why consumer grade cameras like Arlo and Ring are attractive to some folks. They're much smaller and less obtrusive than cameras from Dahua and Hikvision. It seems the trade off of quality and security to obtain ease of installation and a smaller, less noticeable camera are worth it to...
