@TheWaterbug, as others have suggested, you need much higher shutter speed... like 1/1000 minimum. Your FOV is also much wider than necessary, and wastes pixels that could be better used on the plate. If you don't have varifocal, most fixed cams can be modified with different lenses for more... -

Yeah 250msec is about right for cpu... that's what I was getting with intel 3570 anyways. That 1030 gpu does look solid... 384 cuda cores and 30W. That beats my p400 with 256 cores and 30W, which does about 13.0 ops/sec (~70-80msec makes... recently purchased used on ebay for $75). GPU does help... -

I'm pretty sure the main motivation for cpai lpr is to get lpr completely local, without online subscriptions etc. So it would be a 180 if that changed. Also CPAI and the models I believe are all open source. So we probably won't see that side of the code pry any $ from our wallets. BI is... -

@MikeLud1 , just FYI I'm also running a P400 w/ 2GB ram, and lpr is working fine... ~100msec return for lpr. So it must be something else at play. My PC also has 32gb ram... 16gb of which is shared with the gpu. Python processes with lpr, ipcam-combined, license-plates, and deliveries runs up to... -

I had a florida plate where it added a G in the middle, where the orange is located. It gets it right most of the time, but the orange showed up really good on that one. -

Since we are venturing OT, I will add that running a vpn server for remote access to BI (and/or other lan resources) is best practice for security. Port forwarding opens up your network to many security issues... this is perhaps the #1 reason for there being so many open streams available at shodan. -

I stayed on the same boat for years waiting and rarely updating, but with the new on site lpr stuff I'm doing the "current" testing... I would call it beta testing if they labeled it correctly lol. -

FWIW, it appears as is the lpr will stop processing images once it has a plate with sufficient confidence, regardless if it's a whole plate etc. Since there will be some work on this end... I was just reading up on how openalpr processes images, using state plate patterns to help filtering... it... -

@MikeLud1 I mentioned in another thread about the OCR being less accurate than Plate Recognizer... just wanted to mention that was with medium. After switching to high, it's at least on par with the online service. Not sure if you still planned on improving OCR, but it's fine on my end now... -

On my system with 2.0.7 (not beta) and BI 5.6.9.4, the cpai server was already configured with automatic startup by default. I went and unchecked startup with BI in BI settings, rebooted, and now am having a worse problem. BI is not communicating with either of the started modules, and stop... -

Yes, the db6i allows moving overlays around... It depends... the db6i is wifi, and does not have the same level of control over exposure settings, 3dnr, etc that dome/turrets have. So all else equal, the db6i is overall not as good a camera, period. By all else equal, I mean assuming doorbell... -

Well that didn't last long. Clearing out "Mark as vehicle" worked for my non-vehicle cameras, getting consistent 80msec makes with just ipcam-combined. Then minutes later I upgraded to the latest BI (5.6.9.3 from 5.6.9.2), and now the non-vehicle camera ai details are showing plates again... -

Awesome Mike... do you have a coffee link or similar? I owe you. I still have one camera that needs to find vehicles but not plates, but it made no sense for several of my cams to have vehicle marking. WRT changes being made... it would be ideal if lpr cameras don't use lpr ai unless they find... -

Hmm I thought GPU was just for cuda, not intel... but idk. Before I had a gpu I ran cpai with cpu, and it was decent (not too hard on the cpu, make times ~3x longer than with cuda... 200msec which is OK for most small/medium homes I think). -

I'm OK with it slowing makes for the lpr, but seems less than ideal that it is applied to all cameras. I figure the lpr module should only be used on cameras that are using... -

OK, just rebooted and took more careful notes. Here's precisely what's happening now. After rebooting the cp shows 2 green bars. So both modules are running (explorer test shows they work as well). However when cameras are triggered, AI acts funky. I get 2msec makes and always nothing found... -

One more observation/issue... despite having Auto start/stop with BI checked, BI does not appear to be starting the license plate reader module after a reboot. In fact, 3 reboots in a row and AI would not work at all until I went in and manually started the license plate reader from the control...
