    Lite H.265 series?

I see a fairly significant difference between the 6mp and the 8mp. did you digitally zoom to a fixed object like the jeep or the stack of 2x4s?

    NonPTZ 20x Zoom

Andy, He was asking to "NON"- PTZ. I think there is no such thing. the only solution being a long changeable lens. It will be really hard to line up anything longer than 20 mm or so (less than 5 deg FOV).

New starlight fixed lens dome and bullet 0.001lux.

@EMPIRETECANDY , that is a minor thing to me. I run most of mine in color only mode with full spectrum light (street light ,LED porch light, etc), and would prefer to run an external IR blaster on most of the ones that need extra help, which this supports. Having ~5x better low light...

    Lite H.265 series?

How does the Dahua H.265 series fit in the mix of ecosavy 3.0 and lite series? They all support H.265?

New starlight fixed lens dome and bullet 0.001lux.

impressive aperture achievement. I think its F stop is lower than all of their other cameras, including the expensive box and Ultra series. Fixed lens without built in IR (but has cut filter), it is likely low cost and <4W of power.

    Review-Dahua NVR4104-HS-P-4ks Network Recorder.

1 SATA port? Is the network port Gigabit eth, with the PoEs 100 MB? That is a really sub-optimal old HDD you have there (40GB 7200RPM). Fine for testing i guess. I tossed all of my 250GB and smaller drives away a couple of years ago. I couldn't figure out anything that i would ever do with...

Is HFW5231E-Z5 Bullet possibly better than the HDW5231E-Z turret ?

Yes. I use bullets, domes and turrets in various locations and for various reasons. In most locations, i prefer the turret. I wish it came in a Z12 range, even if larger form factor, but as on now, it does not. If i am installing indoors or under a covered porch where i do not want it to be...

Face recognition inside car at night

In general, i would say no, and it depends. I would like to hear what others think here. I have a camera inside in my front room that i have messed with the settings a few times to find that when the settings are set a certain way, i can clearly see through the thin window shade, through the...

Is HFW5231E-Z5 Bullet possibly better than the HDW5231E-Z turret ?

When looking at these cameras, i find that it is best to look at horizontal field of view (H FOV) vs lens length as it more correctly reflects zoom. In the case of the Z5 here, it starts where the Z ends and zooms in ~3x from there. The Z12 on the other hand, overlaps with 12:1 zoom. I find...

When to use an 8mp camera

I have been curious about the storage difference comparison of the two when using H265+ in both cases, maybe to a local uSD on a couple of different day and night scenes. Has anyone done a side by side with similar settings yet, with the purpose of checking the storage usage difference? I...

    Dahua HDW5231R-Z failing SD-cards

I have not had any issues with Samsung Evo select cards at all in any size. Try a known good card that is lying around of any size 128GB or less to ensure it works as expected for a day or two. It sounds like they are new and you purchased them locally, so return them to the store with a...

Review: Dahua Starlight Mini PT Dome SD12200T-GN

Thanks for doing the review @tangent Good images. I especially like the Lego man for scale :) How can you tell from the spec sheet(s) that the camera is sensitive to IR light? I think there is a typo in Dahua's spec sheets. The SD12200T-GN one shows F1.6 on the minimum illumination section...

    IPC-HDW4431C-A 6mm focus problem

that is a fixed focus camera. it is not focusing on anything. it has a wide depth of field with some natural focus point (i don't know where, but it is likely around 10 ft to infinity). Their verifocal camera go down to about a foot IIRC. If you are wanting a 4MP dome for some reason...

    HFW5231E-Z5E vs HFW5231E-Z12E

I have a few thoughts to mention. 1. the Z5 is a good camera, but in every case that i can think of (except the $10 savings), the Z12 is more useful, as it can zoom out further (wide angle) as well as zoom in, having over 2x the zoom range. 2. decide where you can get an ID shot (100ppf) and set...

Dahua 4k Starlight with 1/2 sensor (CVI only for now)

progress. I notice that they have taken to dropping the shutter speed from the minimum LUX in the spec. I suspect that it is being reported from the 1/3 sec vs the 1/30 sec to get to the Starlight (sub 0.01) number, but still good. I also notice that it is slightly wider FOV than previous...

PTZ presets: wireless or cell or mechanical button

Is there a decent way to use a remote of some sort to go between 2 or three presets on a Dahua camera? I am up for trying almost anything, so long as the end result is fairly clean and robust. Thoughts are programmable RF remote to a IP gateway, cell phone app, wall buttons with or without...

    New Starlight Mini PTZ

Nice range with a nice wide angle start FOV (112 deg). it then hands off to the 12x PTX starting at 58 deg 42212TNI. since it is a Dome, having the IR elsewhere would be better anyway, but doesn't it need a cut filter to work with IR?

    Camera Recommendation (long driveway)

I see two lengths at about 120 deg bend between them, one aprox 200 ft long and the other aprox 400 ft long. Are you wanting to view both legs of the drive, which would obviously take at least two cameras? Are you mainly wanting a motion trigger when she comes and goes, or a clear image at...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

@EMPIRETECANDY , is this model (DH-IPC-HDW5231R-Z) on the short list of obsolescence from Dahua? I was just viewing the most recent international on line catalogue and do not see it there any longer. The closes model seems to be the DH-IPC-HDW2231R-ZS, which seems to have a slightly wider lens...

Dahua Starlight STARVIS with more MP?

I think i would go with a STARVIS sensor in all lighting conditions. they are better sensors (there are several of them). I would go with 2MP Starlight (just a term by Dahua for better than an arbitrary low light LUX) in most outdoor situations. Well lit indoor conditions can benefit from...

Bitrate on CBR vs VBR vs FPS v H265

@bp2008 I like the way you separated your well thought out replies to the various sub-questions. Doesn't SmartPSS display the accurate second by second bit rate in the live view field? I would think that would be the easiest way to look at the tweaks, as it is also the tool to make the...
