4MP Domes for the best solution?

^Yes, Hikvision doesn't offer the turret with a SD card slot. At the time being anyways, it would be nice if they did. I'm not too familiar with Dahua, but if you said that's coming out soon then they didn't have it before either.

    FPS and bitrate

The thing about the I-Frame is interesting. For those that don't know what an I-Frame is here is a good explanation: http://www.slingbox.com/en-US/Support/KB/KB-2000081.aspx Also, more discussion on I-Frame here on Cam-It. http://www.cam-it.org/index.php?topic=6328.0 as well as on cctv...

    Hikvision NVRs and Bitrate

The I2 series NVR is fairly new. Most people go with the tried and trusted E2 series NVR, as they don't want to have many issues even though some do. The suppliers I asked said they can get them but you have to wait 25 days for them to even get it after you order, as they have to get them from...

    FPS and bitrate

Ohh of course. In this case the OP didn't seem to have too many cameras or space restrictions, especially if the set bitrate was 8192kbps. If OP needed heaps more storage for a given space then by all means. Although In that case I'd probably turn down the max bitrate a bit, and set a higher...

    Help with choosing a NVR

I do believe you need a later firmware I think 3.3.2 or 3.3.4 to have the NVR record 4MP but it can do it. 2 cameras on the 7608NI won't be stressing the unit and it will happily do max bitrate/resolution on two cameras. Id you only ever plan to have 2 cameras maybe the 7604NI-E1 would be...

Hard Drive - WD Purple or?

Technically you could use any drive and it'll still work, even an SSD would. From what I have seen on numerous builds people just run drives specifically for the purpose, so either WD purple, or Seagate surveillance. They do cost a bit more than some other drives so it's up to you to decide...

    Hikvision NVRs and Bitrate

The prices on those 4K cameras are pretty crazy. I wonder how much cheaper it is when Chinese sellers have them maybe they'll actually be affordable. Then again if you want the best, you gotta pay.

    FPS and bitrate

I reckon if you're going to set the max bitrate that high you might as well increase the framerate. 10fps I reckon is a bit too low for my liking, I personally wouldn't run less than 20fps but that is my opinion (for cameras that can do 20fps at the respective resolution).

    Hikvision NVRs and Bitrate

For 8 cameras running at 4MP and 20fps I would suggest a 16 channel NVR due to the larger bandwidth. Nothing worse than buying an NVR that's not suitable for the job then having to either send it back or sell it. It is dependent on the max bitrate you set on each camera. Then I do believe there...

Question about risk with port forwarding

Having any ports open is a risk of itself. However, you need to have them open if you want to have any outside access to your network. Sure you can change the typical port numbers with something else. It would make it harder for someone who is specifically trying to get in and knows your IP...

    Hikvision 5.2.5 firmware compatible NVR?

8 cameras at a max bitrate of 4096kbps on a 3TB HDD (about 2.7 or so actual storage), will get you about 7 days continuous.

    Advice on set-up

pretty much. You can choose another port number if you want. As long as it doesn't collide with other services.

    Advice on set-up

If you just have the 2 cameras and no NVR, you can view the cameras individually. But you would need to change the ports for the second camera as you can't have them on the same ports.

    FIber optic power level question

For any serious diagnosis you need an OTDR. Doesn't mean you need to buy one, you could probably rent them out. Otherwise without an OTDR you won't know where the fault is. Then you end up wasting more time. That's after you get past the basic diagnosis and still haven't found the issue. Even...

Looking for Mini-UPS for 5v cameras

^The charging section of the external battery might die after a little while. They're not the best quality and not made to be hooked up days at a time. Just keep that in mind. Again you could be lucky or unlucky.

Visible LED on front of cam?

The IR leds are roughly in the 850nm range which is just at the end I believe of the visual range we can see. On the 2T series the leds are just covered by the darkened face unlike the other series where they are clearly visible. At 940nm you won't be able to see anything. If you seen a 2132...

    Hikvision DS-7608NI-E2/8P

Some people have gotten email notification with attachments to work in 3.3.4. Might be worth a shot if you decide to get the E2 model. Not surprisingly. The only support you would get is from the seller you bought it from. The abnormal shutdown alone would be a reason to ditch the SE/P model...

How are you guys routing cables from your NVR with ports on the back?

It wouldn't look too bad if you had the right length cables. You probably could drill holes and put rack mounts on the back of it to mount it in reverse. Just try not to hit the PSU when you're drilling the case as there is only a small gap. Not sure if you plan to glue nuts on the inside or what.

    Hikvision DS-7608NI-E2/8P

I think the issues you would be more concerned about would be the firmware version installed on the 7600NI-E2 series, rather than the actual hardware itself. Because of this, problems depend on the firmware version. If you get a 7600NI-E2 series now it might come with 3.3.2 or 3.3.4. The email...

There's only really a few options The one I would recommend is the Noctua NF-A4x10 you can find them cheaply on Amazon and etc. Then you have Scythe, and SilenX. Don't remember which one of these to stay away from. 40mm fans in general are loud due to their size. Just keep in mind the Noctua...

How long is a piece of string? If you have the model number that would help you. We don't have the information to be able to tell you. If it's running ST connectors it must be pretty old gear. Multimode fiber is usually run at 850nm. Why do you need to know light levels? You're going to...

You might be able to find a 1U server power supply that may fit. However you will find that unlike a server the NVRs need a +52v rail for the POE ports. Heres an interesting fact, a ATX power supply will power the NVR through the 6 pin connector meant for graphics cards. You will still need a...

I do believe there are two different power supplies (maybe more) one is a DELTA with the light blue symbol, and the other one is a black symbol ("CHANNEL WELL TECHNOLOGY"). Mine is the Delta one. You guys might have the CW ones. This makes me wonder if the CW ones are louder than the Delta ones.
