Prevent Dahua Starlight (IPC-HDW5231R-Z) from accessing internet

Thank you for the followup and testing it out. Fortunately I will be accessing the BI server only. I setup BI yday with basics and need to work on it (catches cars on the street but not people walking on the sidewalk, picks up changing shadows from roof etc). After I have worked on that, I do...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

@erkme73 Thanks. If I understand you correctly, the jackets go around where the ethernet port of the camera hooks up with the Cat 6 cable ethernet jack, correct? In my home, this connection is probably sitting in the attic as the cams are mounted under the soffit and there was probably atleast...

    Dahua Starlight Varifocal Turret (IPC-HDW5231R-Z)

I had a professional installer team install 6 of these cams this weekend. All are in soffits under the roof. When I was clearing the boxes today, i found in the boxes these tubular plastic pieces. Are these what you are referring to? It looks like the installer never used them! As i recollect...

Prevent Dahua Starlight (IPC-HDW5231R-Z) from accessing internet

Thank you. I did manually assign a static IP earlier. I cant delete the default gateway or change it much as it keeps giving me a message "IP and default gateway are not in the same network segment" if i choose a number other than in the same network when i hit save. Is it Ok if i choose a far...

Prevent Dahua Starlight (IPC-HDW5231R-Z) from accessing internet

Hi, I recently received 6 of the starlights from andy and am thankful to all those who contribute to this forum to getting me started. I wanted to check something with you. Just yesterday i had an installer run wires and install the 6 cams around my home. I should be receiving a computer in the...

New computer needed for Blue Iris

One more follow up question. Am i correct from reading from HP outlet's site that refurbished HP elitedesk/prodesk desktops have a 1 year warranty (vs the three for new HPs) while the Dell refurbished have three years when bought from Dell outlet? Or am i missing something. Of course on ebay...

New computer needed for Blue Iris

Thank you for clarifying. My plan is to have an 128/256 GB SSD for OS and software and data in 4 or 6Tb purple HDD. So if I just bought the above 800 G2 HP elitedesk SFF, i would not be able to place both a 3.5 HDD and a 2.5 SSD without removing the optical drive. In that case, it isnt very...

New computer needed for Blue Iris

@fenderman Thanks. I too read the spec sheet with the error. So if i understand u correctly, the HP elitedesk 800 G2 SFF can accommodate one 3.5 inch drive AND one 2.5 inch drive? The Dell optiplex 3040/5040/7040 SFF can accommodate only one 3.5 OR 2.5 drive. So one would have to get innovate...

New computer needed for Blue Iris

Interesting, sounds like you have to use lower voltage RAM. Personally what I do for any computer before i buy is go to crucial's site, use the search for the computer i want to add ram, to find compatible RAM and then copy the specs or sometimes the very model number and then search with that...

POE switch do i need gigabit for 6-8 2mp cams?

Thanks. Yes 75 would be a good price for the first one u mentioned as it has a separate uplink. The zyxel as you mentioned only has 4 poe ports so not enough for my current 6 ip cameras. Too bad the BV tech gigabit loses one of its ports for uplink.

POE switch do i need gigabit for 6-8 2mp cams?

Hi guys, I had a question that got buried down in another thread so wanted to post separately here. Looking for a POE switch for 6 Dahua 2mp starlights with some room to add 1/2 later. 1. One switch mentioned in this forum is the BV-TECH that has 8 POE ports PLUS an uplink (nice to have 8...

    POE switch recommendations...

Hi @greenmarcus_02 , Not to hijack thread...Looking for a POE switch for 6 Dahua 2mp starlights with some room to add 1/2 later. The one you quoted BV-TECH has 8 POE ports PLUS an uplink which is nice (compared to say the other 7+1 TPlink switch). The only issue I wonder is the uplink is also...

Home New Setup Cameras, NVR vs computer and RAID

Aah i see. So keep say one purple drive in the NVR and also a SD card in each cam as backup? I didnt realize the SD cards were big enough for HD video. How big do you or others put in? Oh and on the NVR poe vs separate POE switch part... I am trying to keep it simple. Would a built in POE NVR...

@zero-degrees Thanks. I probably was searching incorrectly. I copied the exact model number into the search bar at the top and didnt get much hits but looks like you have similar LTS model cam pics. Thank you for the links. Also interesting that to my eye those pics of LTS look pretty good. But...

    LTS camera quality

Thanks. I missed that the 4MP has a 1/3 sensor. I presume it must have something to do with optics. On the first page on the dahua starlight varifocus review, @nayr mentioned that though it was a 1/2.8 it was better than others because of a superior sensor. So i guess there is something in the...

Home New Setup Cameras, NVR vs computer and RAID

@looney2ns Just saw your post after I replied to other post. Ok, good point about separate pc.. For safety maybe? Maybe NVR is the way to go then. I am very comfortable with pc/windows but if I dont have to code/meddle around for linux, I am OK going with it. BTW, xeon E3s aren't power hogs...

@mat200 Thank you for taking the time responding to my questions. I agree it is a wonderful forum. 1. NVR. Thank you 2. RAID: Mirroring (based on my knowledge of windows) shouldnt cause a hit in performance vs say parity but dont know if these linux setups have that issue. The reason i mirror...

@fenderman Thanks for the reply. I didnt realize there were photos from this LTS camera (2 or 4MP) on this forum. I see plenty of pics on the Dahua starlight varifocus. I just did a search on the forum with the LTS model number and didnt come across pics. Could i trouble you to point me to...

Home New Setup Cameras, NVR vs computer and RAID

Hello everyone, I have been reading many of the threads over the past few weeks (and even more so after registering recently) to understand about IP camera systems. I recently had a installer suggest that I put in around 6 cameras (single level home has a multishaped roof with a wooded back...
