    Camera options for front door

I've been reading a lot here about front door cameras, most recommendations have been around dome cameras or the boobie camera (still dome) which I also read a lot about, and the dome form factor seems to be a bit problematic. I had a few Unifi G3 dome cameras, all of them giving IR reflections...

    Review- VTO2301R-P 2mp Door Station/Doorbell Dahua/Empiretech

Did you disable the power saving feature of Android for that app? I had several apps mixing notifications on my Pixel 6, on Android 12 and 13, I always had to force some apps to not use power saving mode. Microsoft authenticator for example is another app that sometimes doesn't push...

Alarm and Audio in/out on cameras

Would it be able to power a speaker or is it just the audio signal? I wonder if it could power a siren for example from the POE cable that is feeding the camera. Would the PIR sensor for a camera have any other purpose than trigger recording?

Alarm and Audio in/out on cameras

I've seen a few Dahua cameras like the IPC-PDW5849-A180-E2-ASTE aka IPC-Color4K-T180 stating alarm and audio in/out. I'm wondering what is the use case for these ports? It is to detect something and send a notification to an alarm system or the alarm system to trigger recording? What about...

Worlds First Review - Dahua DH-IPC-PFW5849-A180-E2 - Dual Lens 180 Degree Full Color 4K (8MP Stitched) Camera

Ok, so I'll plan to order the base plate. Looking at the picture it looks massive, but I guess getting the junction box instead may not lower the footprint that much?

    Covering/protecting cameras from the elements

Ok, sounds good to me then, I just need to figure out how to hide the cables/connections, maybe using a junction box.

What type of camera was this? Dome?

    Covering/protecting cameras from the elements

What about sunlight? I guess they are made to take direct sunlight as well? I'm planning to mainly use turrets, perhaps a bullet. I've used domes before from Unifi, extremely disappointed with the IR reflections, never again...

Worlds First Review - Dahua DH-IPC-PFW5849-A180-E2 - Dual Lens 180 Degree Full Color 4K (8MP Stitched) Camera

I guess I can't hide the cable connections inside the base plate? I never used one of these cameras with these larger cable bundles/plugs. Maybe that makes it a good case to use the junction box or the wall bracket?

    Covering/protecting cameras from the elements

I'm wondering if I should be covering cameras with some sort of cover like this: I'm thinking about getting a IPC-Color4K-T180, and judging by the wall bracket PFB203W | Dahua Technology (dahuasecurity.com), it doesn't look like it provides much cover. What are the recommendations for these...

Worlds First Review - Dahua DH-IPC-PFW5849-A180-E2 - Dual Lens 180 Degree Full Color 4K (8MP Stitched) Camera

is it possible to install this camera like this to a wall without the junction box? I wonder if it can be exposed to the elements 24/7

Frigate NVR in-action with Home Assistant

I'm testing the beta version, it got much better than the previous version, it is now useable I would say. Before that, I was getting all sort of problems with recordings and playback inside HomeAssistant. I'll give it a go again when I get some decent dahua cameras to replace my unifi protect...

Planning new cameras positioning and models, moving away from Unifi Protect

I've learned so much over the last week reading hundreds of topics and their replies, especially the reviews. So, the IPC-Color4K-T (IPC-HDW5849H-ASE-LED) that I was planning to use just over my entrance door has a minimum focus distance of 5m (16feet) so that would never work well on my door...

    Review- VTO2301R-P 2mp Door Station/Doorbell Dahua/Empiretech

From what I've been researching, there is no chime option for this doorbell which is a bit let down. So, the doorbell keeps ringing or the mobile app keeps ringing on another device once you answer it? I guess that would not work with multiple people using their mobile phones logged into it then?

    Review- VTO2301R-P 2mp Door Station/Doorbell Dahua/Empiretech

How are you guysstill getting on with this doorbell? I'm planning to get rid of my ring doorbell, that crap doesn't trigger the wireless chimes from ring, sometimes the app doesn't ring our phones, proper crap! I'm on the lookout for a POE doorbell, and as I'm getting out of Unifi protect...

Frigate NVR in-action with Home Assistant

Coral TPU is coming back into stock at many places, I pre-ordered mine mid November and got it delivered 1st week of January. I ended up getting dual TPU in form of a pci-e card that I plug into a M.2 slot. The problem is frigate itself, what an awful thing to configure and troubleshoot. I would...

IPVM Releases Phone Version of Calculator

I checked it today, nice tool, barely a few seconds as I was naming the project and then it kicked me out. If it was a reasonable cost for an average end user, I would happily pay for it, but clearly the target audience is professional installers, so why the need to post in a forum like this if...

    Worlds First Review - Dahua DH-IPC-HDW5849H-ASE-LED / IPC-Color4K-T - 2.8mm Turret

On the first post wildcat mentions: Close Focus Distance - ** Specs say 13.8ft but in my testing this is closer to 18 - 20ft I was checking the video review and he is 3 metres (10 feet) away from the camera and to me, that looks in focus Also he moves further in, and still in focus. Pardon...

Dahua NVRs as an upgrade from Unifi protect, or go straight to Blueiris?

Thanks for clarifying. I guess this would be a good candidate for integration into Home Assistant for notifications. It seems BI and HA are able to talk to each other.

Dahua NVRs as an upgrade from Unifi protect, or go straight to Blueiris?

I just saw this, indeed lots of people complaining about the mobile app for Android. I'm curious if there are alternatives or the web interface can be used on Android? last update was mora than 6 months ago.

Dahua NVRs as an upgrade from Unifi protect, or go straight to Blueiris?

I've decided to go camera AI and use ONVIF triggers, it is a good balance offloading the processing to the cameras and getting good detection rate so far I can see. So now, back to researching about camera models and get ready to order some :)

Dahua NVRs as an upgrade from Unifi protect, or go straight to Blueiris?

Ok, thanks for the links, I should have done more research about this topic. I was leaning towards BI as I'm testing it already with my unifi cameras and I'm liking what I'm seeing. After a bit more reading, I'm going for BI and custom hardware. Regarding camera AI stuff, is that of any...

Dahua NVRs as an upgrade from Unifi protect, or go straight to Blueiris?

Not sure if this here is the right place, but I'm planning to move away from Unifi Protect and I'm considering Blueiris on a custom PC, or perhaps take a easier way and get a Dahua NVR. I've never used Dahua NVRs, or anything else than Unifi protect, so I've no idea how good/bad they are. I'm...

I've been reading a lot here on this forum and decided to get rid of my current Unifi camera system in favour of probably Blue Iris and Dahua cameras.
