Effectiveness of footage leading to actual arrests, or any other camera sstories?

At this point, we may need to just resort to turning our televisions and monitors sideways and reprogramming everything. My wife gets this lecture from me frequently.

Upgrading PC - CPU / RAM Selection?

I think the biggest advantage of the LGA2011-v3 architecture is having more PCI lanes to the processor, which you don't really need for dedicated machine. I'd be interested to know how the 6/12 core slower clock speed compares to the 4/8 core higher clock. If you have a MicroCenter nearby, it...

Axis? Or something just as good but cheaper?

Sometimes we overthink things. (I myself, am Guilty). Start with a nice cheap Hikvision, figure it out, and go from there...

How do you wire all your IP cams?

Not sure how much breathing that POE switch gets to do, but you may want to figure out how to take some temps in hot weather before you invest to much time trying to keep it under the deck. Keeping water out of a box housing powered electronics means your trapping heat in.

How do you wire all your IP cams?

You can use some grommeted strain reliefs, like a Crouse Hinds CGB fitting, to give seal around your cord. Ideally you would run metallic liquid tight conduit from a bell box to another bell box, and use THHN wire inside sized properly for the circuit amperage. Then you would have it all in all...

How do you wire all your IP cams?

Low Voltage isn't permitted and inspected here on residential dwellings. Yeah, not optimal but I wouldn't run out and spend $500 and a weekend on my back mounting unistrut between floor trusses so I could run liquidtite conduit all over the place. The cable will probably be fine. A direct bury...

    This guy is fantastic

I've been listening to this guy a little while working on some stuff... This video is great!!! I like this guy, the salty language and all. Anytime the smarter, more productive, no nonsense, little guy stands up to the BS and says F-U, I'm listening.

    Communications cable UL Listings

This is an honest question and I'm not trying to be rude. I didn't want to hi-jack a thread that brought this question to mind. How many of you verify the UL listings on your cable with the UL database? Does the UL listing mean anything to you? What are your opinions? I kinda feel like if...

How do you wire all your IP cams?

ServiceXP, sorry the answer was directed at you but the hostility was directed at code2. I should of used quotes and separated it a little better but I was using my tiny phone. code2, I can take a quick look at your feed and tell you just came here to be a contrarian. I think urban dictionary...

How do you wire all your IP cams?

That's what I got. He said it's in a box underneath the deck feeding all his cameras. His concern was bringing it all into the house.

How do you wire all your IP cams?

My point was, it's fine. Don't worry about your cable. This is how big nationwide cable company does it (knowing coax is much more vulnerable to damage and moisture). No problems. What was your point? To make someone look like an a-hole?

How do you wire all your IP cams?

They are both transmission lines whether they serve whatever you mean by "appreciable load" or not, coax being the much more unforgiving one. We didn't even use gel-filled cable. These were trailers with only a skirt too. So I'd imagine if it caused problems and service calls they wouldn't be...

How do you wire all your IP cams?

When I installed cable TV as a contractor, we simply ran coax by drilling through the floor and just laying the coax on the ground under the mobile home. It was the same coax we used indoors. No gel filling or anything. This was the large cable companies install specs. Never heard of it causing...

z-wave motorized drapery track arriving today

Nice! Thanks for sharing. I installed a projector in my living room recently and it has a 12v trigger for motorized screens. I could probably use it to shut the curtains!

    OpenCV

Anyone work with OpenCV? I need to do an OpenCV project for an engineering computation course. This will be the first time I've used OpenCV, so if anyone has any guidance it would be appreciated. I would love to tie the project into IP cams somehow.

Hikvision NVR on a PC and access via Ivms 4500

The PCNVR is just the server portion of the iVMS-4200 install. I think you can only direct live view from camera with iVMS-4500.

HikVision iVMS-4200 Server and Client Recording

I like the traverse line because I can separate random motion from someone crossing within 5ft of my house. I can get the camera by itself to trigger an email which goes to my SMS gateway (sends me a text). This works great, rare false alarms, so my phone isn't blowing up all day. I think the...

    iVMS Client Problems

Been away for a minute...as far as BI vs iVMS... I like to let the cameras handle the analytics. They have the power, so I let them versus letting them tax a CPU. I run Client and Server on same machine. 24/7 recording will take less CPU because it isn't processing all the frames for analytics.

Hikvision Domes / standard bell box (Red-Dot) work?

Long story short, got some walls open for remodel and no cam handy. Want to run some ENT for future cams. Will a HikVision dome mount to a standard weatherproof round bell box? Like something Red-Dot makes?

Are these systems bogged down by bloatware? That's why I've been building my own systems. I also feel like I have more upgrade, downgrade, swap parts options.

    RE: HikVision Setup

NVR is fine, I would prefer building server/PC. I would definately seperate switching and POE from NVR. I don't have experience with Hik NVRs though. I just prefer the PC because it is more scalable, more adaptable, customizable, and powerful. NVR is more plug and play. If a port goes bad in the...

    RE: HikVision Setup

Then you might consider just plain copper switches. At this point, my recommendations are limited because I'm not there to study your floor plan, pathways, and locations. Those are my genralized thoughts. Personally, I wouldn't use a POE NVR either for that size job. Sorry but I will not be able...

    RE: HikVision Setup

If you are finding cat6a that is not 2-3 times as much as cat6, I would question it's ability to actually meet cat6a performance standards. I would worry more about kinking a cat6a cable then sharp of bend of fiber. Fiber can be kinked and broken but is more forgiving then you may have heard...
