Should Have Hung His Cams Higher (not mine)

LMAO some thieves are so dumb, I guess they thought all footage was on the camera. Still should be a breeze to pick them up if you could get local news to run it. late model white subaru (not a ton of them around) with a really good face shot.

Cheap tablet to serve as permanent camera viewer

Just for fun, I'd like to have a tablet permanently on my shelf near the TV or in the kitchen that is constantly pulling images from my four cameras. I was thinking a $50 Amazon kindle fire might suffice. Do I have to worry about burn-in on these? I assume I would if I had a grid pattern up...

    EzViz on iPhone

All IP cameras, late model hikvision 3 MP running 5.2.0. I think the problem is three of them are outdoor, so maybe only ezviz works with indoor and in that one's case I could just never get the site to register properly with the cameras. I've not tried in a year, maybe I should give it a go...

Man I wish I could get ezviz to work on any of my four hikvision cams. It just doesn't. Never figured out why.

Upload to FTP on Motion Detection? DS-2CD2432F-IW

I have FTP on motion on three cameras running 5.2.0. Brief settings I have as I go through config are: Advanced > events > Motion Detection tab I have check on enable motion detection and check on enable dynamic analysis for motion On same tab I have arming schedule set for 24/7 with Upload to...

    Strange Delivery

Is a smart use. I've read of some shallow foundation techniques even in cold climates that make use of a pretty shallow concrete foundation well insulated with foam and the ambient heat from the house alone can keep the earth under the concrete from freezing...

    Strange Delivery

Yep - On new builds they are sometimes used against the outside of the foundation if you have a basement. In others they are often used in basements internally as they won't saturate under water or have molding issues.

Neighbor's wheels got stolen. Here's the (poor) footage of the perp's car.

A neighbor had something happen on their yard last month. Asked me to check cam. I did, but couldn't see much--was across the street. They got a camera after. People may not realize that night time video is hard enough as it is, but identifying anything at 50 or 60 feet or more, just forget it...

    Tampering

It's true you have to think like a criminal and here is how: Either get absolutely s@*# faced drunk, or go smoke a fat joint or shoot some heroin. Most criminals breaking into cars/houses, etc. are pretty stupid on the whole. As the first response mentioned, you give them too much credit. A...

Second entry door cam directly over door?

I would hate not knowing if a package is there. I only have one camera and it points downward. Can't see faces as well but it's fine by me :) I can get faces on another camera anyway above my driveway.

Inexpensive video capture for our church

I had thought about youtube, streaming up and then having people watch it there as multiple streams from church wouldn't be a good idea. I didn't realize it was that cheap, though :)

Inexpensive video capture for our church

A security camera is not suitable for this. The good news is this is super easy to do if you are okay putting it out later that day: 1) Get any consumer grade video camera 2) Film the service 3) Later that day rip the video from the camera, place it on dropbox, and give the dropbox link to...

Attempted Car Breakin - Spokane Valley

Not bad footage but you need the cam in a better location, as you now realize. I would post a pic like that to my neighborhood facebook group. Years ago I bought a mailbox alert. If it detected light from the box opening it would wirelessly alarm the inside of the house. Used it for years, it...

    Hello from NL

Good luck. I wish my neighbors took surveillance a bit more seriously. Instead they tend to wait until something happens to their car, then they complain about it on the neighborhood facebook page, and proceed to do absolutely nothing else about their life, thus ensuring it happens again.

    ... another U.K. member here!

The best neighbors are no neighbors. And if you can't have that, good fences make good neighbors. And if that's not enough the third best is just video cameras. That's what I have, including 2-3 videos of my neighbor's dog chasing my daughter on our property.

    Hello from NL

Re: Hello from Netherlands Wow, that's just ridiculous. Even using motion detect you will pick up a ton of stuff you don't need, so you should probably forget being able to cleanly record an external image in that environment. People walking, birds, bugs, rain, clouds affecting shadows and...

    wifi range

At that range I think, particularly with the external walls, you're almost certainly going to have a hellacious time ensuring a good signal. Even within a house, maintaining an acceptable wifi signal everywhere is often challenging.

Lets add another Postal carrier Throwing packages

Haha, I was actually thinking of rigging my PC up to print an image when it detects movement in that area and send him a pic, but your idea is similar to what others have had--actually it's better. My wife said I should leave a note saying he's welcome to more money, but a picture of him...

Lets add another Postal carrier Throwing packages

I didn't see the guy shoot the snot...? I'm not sure what I would report somebody over something for. I captured this week the first ever theft on a cam. I have a cam monitoring my cube when I'm out and one of the cleaners very clearly stole change from my change dish. About a dollar, yep a...

Guy breaking into my car last night...

Depending on how much stuff was taken I am the kind of guy who would post this vid on a web page along with all the info I have, put together a smallish reward, and spam the local mailboxes with the web address. The guy is recognizable--to somebody who knows him. Just have to get the pic in...

    Baby Monitor Recommendation

I use a 2432. I was also concerned about ir. Maybe no big deal but not enough confidence to say that for sure. What I did was put a bunch of layers of masking tape over the ir light. A small enough amount gets through that in a closed off room I can still see quite well what is going on...

    New 5mp Sony IMX 178 1/1.8" sensor 4.7-94mm 20x zoom speed dome

    IP Cam to replace DropCam

I also moved from multiple dropcams 18 months ago to some hikvisions. No monthly cost, superior resolution, work outdoors. As mentioned 2.8 mm is wide and will give about 90 degrees. Even if you have the newest "nest cam", a hikvision 3 MP will smoke the heck out of it for image quality. But I...

Taking a screenshot every day at same time

Not sure about blue iris as I don't use it, but I have been taking a pic every 6 hours on one of my hikvision cams for over a year. The cameras expose a URL which can be visited for an image, so I wrote an app that pulls from these at certain times. It can be done even easier, though. I don't...

Please help confirm camera choice for front door

Another vote for 2.8. I don't see value in a unless you plan on sitting in front of it for many hours/day keeping an eye on things. Chances are it will be left 99% by itself, so you need something that can see what you need without intervention. Eventually a cheap PTZ will be brought on market...

Firm up choices for Cam Location...detailed pics included!

Sounds good--those size cameras should work. I've bought three cameras from milkisbad. Would certainly buy a fourth :) My only main parting advice is next time buy the cameras and then proudly show your wife what you were working on all afternoon. I didn't tell mine about the camera I got for...

Firm up choices for Cam Location...detailed pics included!

Maybe one cam could fit in one of the garage doorways, e.g. next to an keypad. With the distances you have two cams would definitely be nice. Most of us will never catch thieves on our cams, but a co-worker who is fairly rural had his neighbor's trailer stolen one day right off his property, too.
