I figured that 2MP would be preferred, no doubt on the 1/8th sensor option, it is around 70% more cost but tempting! the newer design with this slightly domed lens cover bugs me a bit, why not just use flat glass like the other models, maybe no big deal and just me.
The 2MP works out around...
Looking to replace a failing 49225 with 2MP starlight sensor, options below:
SD5A225GB-HNR
or
SD4E425GB-HNR-A-PV1
I am considering the EmpireTech PTZ5A4M-25X but this is not in the same price bracket!
Local supplier also has the SD49225XA-HNR-S2 in stock if anyone thinks that is still a...
Thank you again @wittaj
Shall likely just order one of those anyway, try it alongside the Z4E, it's the only way to really decide. I am certain the Z4E will be on the short side, but will be an excellent test for small detail during the day and general output at night.
My current 5231's do...
I had no idea about the S2 variant, my regional supplier has S3 variant in stock?!? apparently. My existing camera is original version I suspect before the S2 was released.
Thanks, I stumbled across that and had a good read, excellent post and mine of information. My original Z12 has the focus shift issue so I am using the DahuaSunriseSunset application to tune that out, very useful on other cameras as well, I like mine to switch from night to day and vice versa a...
Totally agree, my head is telling me to get a 2MP with 60mm and heart is saying go with a 5442 at 32mm. Just seems like backwards steps using the older sensor now, things move very quickly in this field.
In fact this has encouraged me to get a couple of the other more critical 2MP cameras...
I have found that the more I use PTZ cameras, the more I wish all of my others were PTZ, of course they are bulky and expensive so not ideal. I do have some which have no need to move around, others I sometimes find myself going for the controls only to find there are none :)
Side note, there...
Did not know they existed! interesting design, useful for space saving and reducing clutter externally. Wow, just seen the size and weight, that is a big beast!
Appreciate that @wittaj and I do avoid digital zoom, no worries there. Also totally understand your point, I am not a megapixel chaser but do favour low light performance. Until the 5442 series I had always favoured the 2MP starlights, but the 5442 sensor has blown me away frankly, the numbers...
Appreciate the feedback, the Z4E would certainly be maxed out for my use, where as the Z12 would have plenty breathing space. I am quite reluctant to buy 2MP now, once you see the 5442 series quality and IR performance, difficult to argue against them.
Maybe I will have to settle on a Z12 for...
I did some rough calculations based on my 4.8-120mm PTZ zoom range, to estimate what I would need.
Dahua work on a 0-25 zoom range for that 120mm PTZ
25% = 30mm
50% = 60mm
75% = 90mm
100% = 120mm
Works out at roughly 4.6mm over estimate per zoom increment in theory. Which equates to zoom 7...
Appreciate the images, thank you for taking the time. Any thoughts on comparisons, or is it a case of right zoom for the job. The Z4E looks like a more natural and detailed image to my eyes at least. I find with my Z12E and HFW5442EP-ZE that the latter can produce almost as nice looking image at...
Very interesting, I am out of touch this last year or so! sadly. My HFW5241E-Z12E is running ANPR duties at about 80-90 feet and I suspect that is close to the distance I need for this new camera, maybe I will try one anyway! No doubt not really wise to use them at full zoom but the 5442 series...
So grateful for the prompt and as ever knowledgeable reply, this must be the same reason they don't seem to use that 5442 sensor in PTZ cameras, I guess. How would you say the 5442-Z4E-S3 performs under purely IR lighting, worst case scenario? your samples look pretty good and I know the 5442...
Sorry for being somewhat lazy here, I use a HFW5241E-Z12E for ANPR duties and need a similar camera to cover about 50 feet distance, non ANPR use. Wondered if anything existed from Dahua with good zoom but maybe in the 4MP range using a larger sensor. I also use the HFW5442EP-ZE cameras, great...
Sorry, this is reviving an old thread, just wanted to say superb information on here as always, chart above is also gold :D. I came here since one of my 49225's is playing up with auto iris. Wondering if the smart thing is simply get another one if I can. Initial thoughts were to go with a 5442...
I have been doing this for a while now, but, got caught out on the IVS rules!
It didn't jump out at me in guides or other forum answers until @wittaj pointed it out.
After setting up IVS rules, make sure to Find/Inspect the camera in Blue Iris again, otherwise it will never work, at least not...
Then I woke up and configured them direct through the NVR (browser) and re-entered authentication, all good. Playback and liveview, working fine. Seemed like a good idea to upgrade 2.5 hours ago!
Unless you want to waste some of your life, do not upgrade things that are working fine, I know...
OK, how the heck do you edit the default group :wow: I've just broken live view to them, playback works fine. It's late for me, maybe look tomorrow :wtf::lmao:
Mystery solved!!! it turns out I was using version 2.01.0, 32bit Chinese English. It installs, NVR detects and cameras line up underneath as expected for playback. I'm in IT for a day job yet my right finger cannot stop clicking to install things, even when my brain says STOP  Classic...
No, simply for viewing NVR only, just as backup really. Blue Iris for daily use. Trying older version now, it picks up cameras no trouble, just trying to find the version I had as download! it must have been an early version 2.xxxx
The cameras and NVR itself all work fine, just that now the cameras don't associate with the NVR for playback, ie, they don't show up in the drop down list when in config for NVR, if that makes sense. Looks simply like a version issue to me, the old one I have setup many times before. Add the...
Interesting, previously camera registration page under NVR config would show all cameras, now only one shows. Adding devices connects the NVR and all cameras just fine.
No POE on this NVR no, I use external POE from HP switch.
Sorry, being lazy here, just decided to try installing latest release SmartPSS, I know, I know!!! stupid idea with an old 16 channel NVR.
Now, it picks up cameras and NVR, no previous recordings showing and when accessing NVR config, just one camera shows up!! is this expected and should I...
These 5442 series of camera really are quite incredible. Once you experience good low light performance, very hard to look at anything with a lesser sensor. :D
Damn, I missed that altogether! annoying, was assuming they were dual IR and white light, shame, that means no go I feel since current 5442's are in areas without any other light source.
Thanks for pointing that out.
Liked the look of the 'new' PTZ SD3E405DB-GNY-A-PV1 but they use smaller...
