New DYI guy with new project

Thoroughly agree with this. Soffits are great for an an over view but nigh on useless for identification. My neighbour has some of his cameras mounted on his window sills (ledges) and gets perfect identification images even if the approaching person has their head down with a hat on

Blue Iris is buggy and not user friendly.

I'm still on pre-install but I'm reading & re-reading the manual & associated documentation - both of which are very comprehensive Hence, my reply to the OP would be, with all due respect RTFM !!

    Carrying on with the pre-work

Good suggestion - I will indeed start to post some pics It's nothing grand, like some other peoples examples on here but I'm proud of everything not least for its 'neatness' Making my own cables has been a big step - my OCD absolutely hates excess cabling curled up or messy installs of...

    Carrying on with the pre-work

There's a lot of work getting a nice neat CCTV installation, isn't there ! A good few hours today spent relocating my main router and putting in the Cat6 cable for the secondary router that will act as a repeater for wifi -- I kinda thought that if I was going to all this trouble of installing...

    Caught in the act!

If he's 13 then he's an equivalent age of around 70 in human years. Cat's are very clean animals but if their litter tray is dirty they'll find somewhere else If their anal glands are swollen - for a variety of reasons - you'll get what you are getting, so first port of call would be a vet to...

EAsy to fix if you know cats - if you don't then your shouldn't get one Probably best if you don't breed either :) :)

Camera wiring solution (without attic access)

It all depends on how you class a 'sizable hole' CAt 6 exterior grade ethernet cable has a diameter of 6mm =/- 0.2 mm, therefore it has a cross sectional area of 28.27 mm A 1 inch ( 25mm ) hole has a cross sectional area of 490.87mm, so the latter divided by the former would suggest that you...

    NeuroSurveillance - AI-Software for IP-Cameras

Hello Neurosurveillance Would your system be capable of running along side a Blue Iris installation on the same server, or would it require an addition dedicated machine ?

Camera wiring solution (without attic access)

Suggestion: Site your NVR as close as you can to an external wall & put a single cable run through the wall into a medium sized IP66 external junction box (high enough not to be vandalised, or use steel), then run conduits to each camera I have some external wires to run around an 1898...

    Arlo outdoor cam deters vandals

Depending on what type of router is being used it may be possible to add a wifi extender Whilst my CCTV installation is going to be Cat 6 hardwired, I'm adding a wifi extender (second wifi router configured as an extender) in order that I can 'play' with various wifi options - primarily for...

Birth of my first patch cable

What is "gel filled double jacket shielded Cat 6" ? I've never even heard of it ....... or is someone pulling my leg :) Is it kinda like a 'long stand', a 'can of scotchbrite' or a 'sky hook' ? :)

    General security - windows

Hello all Whilst we're all concerned with CCTV systems for security, does any one have any experience or can offer any recommendations in regards to window security in the form of window security film I am really interested in boosting 'physical' security by making the windows a harder place...

Birth of my first patch cable

HAving done a lot of research before I bought, I went for solid copper. Many cables are available as 'CCA' that being copper coated aluminium, but I understand that solid copper is preferable for IP camera's The cable I bought is Cat 6, made to a higher specification than Cat 5 or Cat 5e. It...

Birth of my first patch cable

The pass-through (easy) connectors are what I'm using It seemed best to ensure the jacket is fully inserted before crimping and the crimp pliers cut off any excess. Also means I can do one last check before actually crimping down

Blue Iris Configuration - Is this possible ?

Am I correct in thinking that, if during the time period for all cams recording further movement is detected, then the counting-down 10 minute (in this instance) timer will restart again at 10 ?

Blue Iris Configuration - Is this possible ?

Hello all, I'm starting down the road of my own personal Blue Iris install and reading an awful lot about different things. To potentially save storage space from all camera's recording 24/7 perhaps some of the more experienced could answer me a question: Is it possible to have the camera's...

Mounting a SD59225U on a tree that is at an angle

If you have to mount anything to a tree, remember it is a living thing. Rather than nails consider using extra long zip ties to affix a board to mount your camera too That said, WA3PNT's idea of a rigid pole is perhaps a better idea in the long run

Happy bunny ! Just made & successfully tested my first Cat 6 UTP ethernet cable It means I can now have network cables the length 'I' want rather than curling up excess network cable into an unsightly mess. Thank heavens for YouTube tutorials Now it can all look nice & neat :)
