Hello @alastairstevenson OK, I've done what you said and waited for the router to assign an IP address for both new Uniview camera's, and this it has done on my own network assigning the 4th extensions as 27 & 34 respectively for each Entering these assigned IP addresses into a browser...

Daft question, but bear with me ....

Hi Alastair - thank you for your kind reply I have tried setting the IP address of 3 different PC's to the same IP as listed in the camera instructions. The switch shows both lights illuminated above the RJ plug, and if I cover the lense the IR illuminator activates I have tried EZStation...

    NUC pc's

They're a clever design but not sure they're suited to an always-on CCTV system I considered buying one for my caravan (think travel trailer in US/Canada) but was put off by the excessive price £300/£350 Decided instead on a SFF Dell with additional 2Gb graphics card, 2nd hand on eBay for £50

Daft question, but bear with me ....

Hello Alastair Thank you for the additional information - the camera is a Uniview (aka Zhajiang Uniview Co Ltd) - once installed it will be a sealed system running both software & hardware firewalls and won't be connected to remotely I've tried a Hikvision camera & its SADP tool - really...

Dell Optiplex VS HP Compaq for a Blue Iris machine

HP has, for me, always been held with the same low esteem as Toshiba for PC's . Both my previous HP & Tosh laptops made pretty poor frisbees yet still had better functionality as a frisbee than as a PC Dell on the other hand have always been rock solid performers, either laptop or desktop...

    Which system?

Thread update : Got both the 4MP QVIS camera's up & running now - a bit of messing about but really impressed by the picture quality & low (no) light IR illumination Far better than the Hikvision turret which, try as I might, my system just won't see Lesson learnt here I think - stay away...

    Picking the Right Cable?

When I laid a conduit underground, I took advice from an elderly neighbour & former groundsman. I used blue alcathene pipe (flexible, but not much !) and before I backfilled the trench put a hefty dose of salt around & over the conduit Many years later, whilst digging again near the conduit it...

    Non-pc based system

You're preaching to the educated @fenderman :) My home BI setup is a dedicated 6th gen i7 with 8Tb storage and a 16-port switch (8 port POE) in a dedicated custom server rack using a 42 inch smart tv via HDMI as its monitor, etc ..... He's plans to install his CCTV system in a utility room...

    Non-pc based system

On the one hand @fenderman, I agree - but an NVR is truly 'standalone', Blue Iris isn't A BI licence without a PC to run it on, with sufficient storage, a separate POE switch, possibly a patch panel ....... it all adds up to a lot of tech which if you aren't interested in is a lot more...
