    Video drive spikes to 100%

Hi all. Recently, my 6 month old 4TB WD purple drive has randomly been spiking to 100%, causing issues when playing back clips. It will spike to 100% even when not playing clips and when BI is just running in the background, minimized, as a service. CPU doesn't necessarily spike either and stays...

New modem- Can't connect to OpenVPN

Just switched from ATT Uverse to Metronet Fiber. I had configured the ATT router/modem NVG589 to be used solely as a modem, passing through to my Asus AC1900 to be used as the router. I used the Asus due to it's OpenVPN functionality and accessed my BI system (on a PC) from outside of the...

Perfect. Thanks for all your help, @wittaj and @TonyR. Very much appreciated EDITING FOR FUTURE VIEWERS: I used the thread linked below to help set up the second NIC https://ipcamtalk.com/threads/dual-nic-setup-on-your-blue-iris-machine.40264/

Alright! So I was able to install a second NIC. I assigned it an IP range different than the other, 192.168.0.1 compared to 192.168.1.1 I've assigned each wired cam an IP 192.168.0.X and default gateway of 192.168.0.254, switched the wiring so that the cameras are into the switch then into...

Thanks @TonyR. Is the switch going to NIC 1 optional? In other words, can BI PC go straight to router through NIC 1?

    Home internet speed effects

Thanks so much. I ordered a TP link gig network card. Just to be clear- I’ll get that installed, plug my PoE switch into it, and set the cameras to that IP range. Then direct BI webserver to that new NIC. I’ll then plug BI PC straight into router from the original network card. Does that...

    Home internet speed effects

You nailed it. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I do have them blocked in the router. Two questions 1) Is it as simple as reassigning each camera a static IP outside of the normal network range? any other issues related to VPN access? 2) Will that alone allow for improved Wi-Fi across the...

Makes sense. How does the complicate access externally? Currently using OpenVPN on my router for access.

    Home internet speed effects

Sorry, networking illiterate. Cameras all have static IP’s from 192.168.1.3 through 192.168.1.14 (all but the doorbell because I can’t change it without losing Amcrest access). Nothing else is on that range and they are isolated from the internet Rest of the network starts at 192.168.1.15...

    Home internet speed effects

Yeah, they are. They’re set outside the range of the WAN and I use a VPN to access, but within the same LAN. I worry about changing anything network security related. Setting the cams to an IP off the router address would then take them off the router and onto the PC only? Or it would still...

    Home internet speed effects

I believe this switch (the one I have) only has two connections for Ethernet. I’m unclear as to how I could wire it so that cams are off the router (cams already to to switch, then switch to router and pc).

    Home internet speed effects

So, best practice would not be to run wired cams to switch, and switch to router/pc? Instead, cams to switch, switch to NIC1, then NIC2 to router? im not super literate when it comes to NIC’s and networking.

@TonyR @TVille I'll be interested to see how my internet improves (or doesn't) with the new provider. The cost for Gb service is negligible as compared to other speeds, and I can downgrade easily if I don't get speeds that justify it. My family does a lot of streaming now that school classes...

    Home internet speed effects

Does your home internet speed affect the BI system? For example, internet in my area is terrible and the max I can currently get is 50 down and 5 up. I notice when I view BI remotely it can be jittery. Could this be related to internet speed? Also, I am getting ready to switch to fiber optic...

    Upgrading PC- thoughts?

@TVille @SouthernYankee @wittaj I appreciate all your input. I'm able to add 32gb RAM to this thing, currently running 8gb. Should I upgrade to 16 or 24gb and see what improvements that makes? If I can, I'd rather avoid having to buy and setup a new system, so if I can just upgrade this current...

    Upgrading PC- thoughts?

Substreams were a game changer for me! Brought my i5 down from ~30ish% to 10-15%. I'm noticing lagging during my recordings at times, and on playback. I'll even miss a few seconds of recording because of the stutter on my 5231 cams.

    Upgrading PC- thoughts?

Thanks @SouthernYankee. I'd definitely prefer to upgrade my current i5 instead of purchasing a new (refurbished) one. I don't do deepstack, it was way too much for my system, along with other reasons. I've currently got a 4TB purple drive in it for video and a new 240gb SSD for C drive. You...

    Upgrading PC- thoughts?

Hi all. Looking to upgrade my HP Prodesk G1 pro i5-4590 8MB, it’s getting a little slow. Currently have 6x2MP and 3x4MP cams, plus a DB110. would like to stay in the $300 range for the upgrade, thoughts on these two? Or could I do better?

Hey @wittaj, so my existing setup is basically a tower and monitor in my basement with a POE switch connecting cameras and everything together. My cameras are isolated from the internet by my router- I've got into each one and blocked access to the internet and use a VPN to connect to my BI pc...

    Off site cameras

Scenario. Family member's home is a few miles away and I would, ideally, like to install some cameras at that home and monitor/record from my BI at my home. Maybe have them able to remote monitor only their location as well from their phones. Is there any way to do this that is secure (I do...

IPC-HDW5231R-ZE Rhea V2.800.0000016.0.R.200430 Latest new firmware

I have never updated my 5231’s because I didn’t want to fix something that’s not broken and my cams are blocked from the internet at the router. Is this update still necessary for me? I do not have an NVR.

Who uses Dahua AI capable cameras? Reliable AI for triggering events? Pro's/con's?

Awesome, I hadn’t considered the 3241. Good news is that it’s also cheaper than the 5442. Does anyone happen to know the side by side differences between the 3241 and 5442, other than MP?

That sounds like a great option. Only concern is the different sensor, I'm assuming that's why it's not a Starlight cam?
