OK to have a solid state drive for OS? (Calling Fenderman)

Thanks to all. Seems like it's getting harder to find a Dell 9020 mini tower on Dell Outlet with Integrated Intel Graphics. Ton of small form factor. And the discount coupons come and go. I checked out their twitter feed but they tweet way too much. Now that I have more knowledge, thanks to all...

OK to have a solid state drive for OS? (Calling Fenderman)

Thank you! Do you know if a Dell Optiplex mini tower has provision for a second drive? Read some reports where there is room but no bracket. Some claim Dell doesn't have or won't sell a bracket. Seems strange. Room for 3rd drive?

OK to have a solid state drive for OS? (Calling Fenderman)

My computer has 256K SS drive which has the OS. I would add a WD purple for data storage. Will this setup be OK?

New Dell Optiplex 9020 with i7 haswell is Small Form Facotr case. is that bad?

Ion, Very interesting! I admit to not looking too closely at this unit. When I took the cover off, it seemed too packed to add another hard drive or swap to a larger drive. The drive is not the standard 5.25" drive is it? Are you saying a standard 5.25" drive fits? (can't see into the unit very...

New Dell Optiplex 9020 with i7 haswell is Small Form Facotr case. is that bad?

I contacted the seller on eBay, not expecting any relief. Surprisingly, I received a reply from the seller within minutes. I would get 100% refund! Of course I have to pay return shipping but that was expected. Outstanding! I'm not a regular ebay shopper as I generally expect caveat emptor...

New Dell Optiplex 9020 with i7 haswell is Small Form Facotr case. is that bad?

Thanks all. It does not have an esata port. The interior is pretty full. Not enough room for much of anything. I will see if seller will take it back in exchange for mini tower or even full tower, or I'll dump it on eBay myself. Will likely loose because I'm not sure the warranty is...

New Dell Optiplex 9020 with i7 haswell is Small Form Facotr case. is that bad?

I bought a refurbished Dell off eBay, supposedly with Dell 3 year support. When I opened the box I discovered it was the small form factor case. I haven't re-read the eBay ad yet. I wanted to ask a few questions here first before checking to see if the seller will even consider taking it back or...

Recommendations for unmanaged 8 POE switch, all ports POE

Thanks! I have a 16 channel switch on one port in the theater, not all are used but surprising how fast they fill up. I have a 4 port switch in the den on another port. I have 2 other ports that only have a single device on them. Should I stack the 2 switches on one of the ports or put one of...

Recommendations for unmanaged 8 POE switch, all ports POE

Thanks. I'll start with the two switches and stack one behind the other and see how it goes. Is this a no-no? If so, I suppose I need to invest in an 8-port router. One thing leads to another...

Recommendations for unmanaged 8 POE switch, all ports POE

Hi Pozello, my router has 4 ports and all are used. I've not heard of, or I should say not searched for a router with more than 4 ports. Your link takes me to the Ebay page but does not state POE. When I Google the model listed, Netgear spec says 8 of 16 ports are POE. Is this what you...

Recommendations for unmanaged 8 POE switch, all ports POE

Thanks fenderman, from all the reading I've done on this site, I know your advice is solid. I will buy 2 of the POE switches you recommended. Not to say pozzello's advice isn't solid. I found several candidates on that big online store, all of which were 8 port (all POE). Those were similarly...

Recommendations for unmanaged 8 POE switch, all ports POE

I currently have 6 Hikvision cameras. I will be adding at least 1 more camera. My preference is an 8 port switch, all must be POE, with a 9th port for the connection to my network. This will give me the option to add an 8th camera. If an 8-port plus a 9th for my network is significantly more...

    Blue Iris Hardware Recommendations

In direct to disk mode, are time and date stamps embedded in the video recordings? If not, how does one tell/prove when the recording took place? I curretnly use Hikvision cameras if that matters.

NVR vs. PC: Before I return the Dell Optiplex 9020...

Yes that is helpful knowing I can connect multiple monitors and if necessary add an additional card. But now that I know the on board video has dual out, that may suffice. I have been following the thread you linked. Thank you.

NVR vs. PC: Before I return the Dell Optiplex 9020...

Per Fenderman's recommendation on PCs, I picked up a Dell Optiplex 9020 with i7 Haswell. It's been sitting on the floor unopened. I'm at the end of the return window and called Dell to get RMA and label. They were very nice about it, almost made me feel bad to return it. I'm sure there are...

Not a US (WR) camera as advertised. Got CCCH and no offer to replace.

Just read the PM from Wrightwood (surveillanceone) to replace my camera. I'm very impressed that new ownership has stepped up to make things right. They could have said "sorry, that was the old ownership" but they did not. Very impressed! Kudos to the new ownership!

Heads up if you plan to install Windows 10 Threshold 2

Is it a Blue Iris issue or Microsoft? Read several articles today about Microsoft removing programs or disabling programs to install the update. A lot of flack about Microsoft messing with people's settings.

Please critique my network setup for PC based camera system

The switch was a recommendation by fenderman in another thread. Not knowing too much about network switches and how much load a 8 camera setup might tax my system, I figured it's better than a blind shot in the dark. I look to those "in the know" for recommendations. I don't stream much HD at...

Please critique my network setup for PC based camera system

Currently have Hikvision NVR with Hikvision cameras. Must say, this is a simple setup. These forums have me itching to try a PC based setup, most likley with Blue Iris. Darn this forum! :) Bought Optiplex i7 setup from Dell outlet per recommendations from fenderman. Only mistake I made was 4GB...

    Blue Iris Hardware Recommendations

Thanks fenderman, I'll go with your recommendation. One more question, if I have more than 7 cameras, can this switch be cascaded? 8 port switch, one to PC running Blue Iris, other 7 for cameras. 8 or more cameras connect how? Sorry for being dumb, just getting started with PC and Blue Iris.

Where to buy? Amazon less expensive.

Any reason to get the CD? I'm old fashioned and like having a hard copy. However, if I get a license code that can be used to reinstall, should my system crash, then I see no reason to add ~$12 to the order.

Cube Cameras not seen by Hikvision NVR

Thank you for the very detailed troubleshooting instructions. I plugged my PC into one of the ports on the back of the Hikvision NVR. SADP immediately saw my four existing cameras. I plugged in the cube camera and gave it a few minutes. It never showed up. No activity on the LEDs on the back...

Where to buy? Amazon less expensive.

Thanks fenderman and chaycock. I know some OEMs do not discount as to not undercut their other official resellers (if they have official resellers). I thought maybe that is what was going on here. I will buy directly from Ken. Happy to pay extra to support the product.

    Blue Iris Hardware Recommendations

I'm not that great at IT but I think I like the idea of a different subnet. Would a subnet keep the traffic down on my main network? Can I still see my cameras via WAN (on my phone) if I have them on a different subnet? If not do I need a separate router? I'm in the process of setting up Blue...
