About to buy a DS-2CD2542FWD-IS 4MP 4MM anyone have one

4mm should be good I'd imagine. Its not too cramped with the FOV and it will still give good picture. Just make sure the main entrance way is at the center of that photo. You will lose a little bit of clarity/definition towards the edges.

    Just Ordered A Longse LBW90S500

It appears to me that @patrocle has mounted his LBW90S500 camera a little to high and -- as a result -- the camera's IR is being focused on this lawn, approximately 4-feet to 6-feet beyond his patio. It may be that lowering the camera will allow the IR to be cast further out into patrocle's...

    SADP password unknown

Need to use a computer on that network to access the IP address via a web browser. Access that and then update the IP address in the camera menu and reboot. It'll appear to freeze on reboot, that's fine. Just wait a minute or two and then try again with the new address. Or try using the NVR...

    2342 - New 5.4.1 firmware

Its usually recommended that you don't unless you are having issues. I don't have any experience with it but a lot of the most experienced posters have advised against it as it can cause you to brick the camera. Seems like the "if its not broke, don't fix it" type thing.

    SADP password unknown

I had a similar issue. I ended up accessing the camera directly and modifying the IP thru the browser rather then use SADP. When you first access the camera via the browser to do this, it will ask you for a password. It needs to be 8-16 characters in length and will rate the strength of it...

    Help with IP Camera purchase

If you're used to coax, it'll be fine. Its much less stiffer than coax. There are two differences between 5e and 6. One is the big plastic spine that runs thru the center of the cable. 5e doesn't have it, 6 does. It separates all the twisted pairs of cables and provides stiffness and...

HikVision and Powerline Adapter help please! (And Synology)

Yeah its a one time thing for the licenses, not a subscription. But the NAS aren't known for the processing power, that's why a lot of recommendation go to newer i5 or i7 processors. Just something to consider in case you run into some problems. I don't have experience with the Powerline so...

HikVision and Powerline Adapter help please! (And Synology)

Whats the bandwidth on those adapters? Some use them with no problem, others have problems so its a mixed bag. Also, Synology NAS drives require you to buy licenses per camera and the numbers I've seen can be expensive. Have you looked into that? Just something to be aware of if you...

    Help with IP Camera purchase

Are you buying patch cables or terminating your own cables from a spool? If you're not used to working with cable, Cat6 won't make a difference. It'll take a little getting used to but its def doable. I ordered Cat6 for my installs but started practicing terminating the cables with Cat5e so...

To Ken if you look at your forums

But you also have to understand its a one man business and putting them on blast in not one but two different threads is going to rub people the wrong way. Your expectation of customer service needs to be tempered a bit, you're not dealing with a Fortune 500 company with 24/7 tech support lines.

1 or 2 Camera Surveillance System Using Home Computer

Not sure if you're joking or not but you don't wanna spray the camera with that. As far as how much of a problem it is based on location, I live/work in Northeastern PA. Home cameras are turrets which don't provide my home system any issues but the bullet cams at work have new spiders in the...

    Question about PoE switches

Texas summer heat, might be better to put in a Network Storage box with some fans as opposed to the attic. Do you have a closet or any other place you could mount/store them where it would have lower temperatures? I know some like to use the garage but I've also heard people suggest that's a...

New Member with a question (imagine that)

Whats the distance from the table top to the ceiling? Distortion is an issue with lower sized lenses (2.8mm and 4mm). I have a recently installed 6mm at my front door and don't notice distortion or much bending. I'd imagine a 6mm, 8mm or maybe 12mm would be fine depending on how high you...

Did U try setting the buffer to 20mb? I dunno if it would help. It's weird that the frame rate would automatically drop tho, I don't know if I faulty switch would cause that, I've only read about fault switched losing connection completely at various times. I'm not saying it didn't cause their...

Blue Iris - Random Network Issues with Cameras low FPS

U said u took the Powerline adapters out and wired them with an Ethernet cable. I'm saying run another cable from the PC to the switch. That will allow the cameras to record directly to the PC without all that traffic having to go thru the router. That way if the router is having an issue, the...

Blue Iris - Random Network Issues with Cameras low FPS

That makes no sense, u shouldn't lose either of those by running the PC to the switch instead of the router. They all maintain the same IP address as long as they are still connected to the same router. If u don't wanna run another cable, try increasing the buffers for the cameras to 20mb...

    Advice: Built-in POE vs. Switch

I vote separately. You can also use the switch to power additional things, such as IR Illuminators if that's something you decide on later. Or you can just use the open ports on the switch to connect other devices to your network.
