    VPN Primer for Noobs

@nayr, any suggestions/recommendations on Scripting for newbs. I'm trying to learn about scripts and mounting the jffs to prohibit outgoing traffic in Merlin, but there is just so much out there. As a novice I don't even really know where to begin. It's actually pretty discouraging. Sent from...

    VPN Primer for Noobs

@nayr, is it possible (or smart) to set your router NTP to the NTP server on our BI machine if we have one running? Or is it better to have it sync to an outside NTP? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    VPN Primer for Noobs

Use of a VPN is more secure then the use of open ports. While it doesn't add additional levels of secure to the LAN, it allows secure connections for the VPN clients. Given what he's said in previous comments I was trying to explain it as such. Hopefully he's read this tutorial in its entirety...

    VPN Primer for Noobs

Think of the VPN as a castle. When it's running, all of your devices on your home network are secured by its walls. When you activate the VPN on your mobile device when you are on the wifi at work or whoever, it gives u a secure and direct link or tunnel into the castle that no one can break...

BI mobile app and VPN - issues connecting

If you're using a VPN, u don't change the WAN, u type the LAN address in the WAN settings in the BI app. Also, the WAN is determined by you in your router. Unless u have a dual Modem/Router from your ISP. And if that's the case I'm not sure u can set up a VPN on it. Sent from my iPhone using...

    Accessing BI with OpenVPN

At your house on your home wifi network that is the same network as the system u don't need to disable wifi, just open Blue Iris without the OpenVPN and it'll work fine. OpenVPN on your phone is only necessary OUTSIDE of your home network. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Accessing BI with OpenVPN

Correct. There's always the chance setting it to a random one will coincide with another network you are on, but as long as you stay away from the common ones (192.168.0.xxx or 192.168.1.xxx), most likely you'll be fine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Accessing BI with OpenVPN

Most likely the network without the cameras is the better one to change as you won't need to manually go in and change the IPs of each. When you do change the LAN. Everything will lose connectivity for a very short period of time until the devices reconnect so be aware of that. Sent from my...

    Accessing BI with OpenVPN

Yeah u need to change that first 1 to something else like I mentioned above. Once you decide what you want it as, say 192.168.20.xxx, Just manually go in and do each camera first, then go in and do the LAN in the router settings. Reboot and you'll be good to go, that's exactly what I needed to...

    Accessing BI with OpenVPN

I'd reckon you can't change the LAN at work unless you own the business and control the network there. It's not about changing the IP it's about changing the LAN in the router settings. Right now it's prob 192.168.1.xxx. Which is Prob what your work one is. You're better off changing your home...

I'm just talking in general terms, if anyone has used one and what they used it for. Daytime Exposure / Gain Settings question

Just curious what some here are using for their daytime Exposure/Gain settings. I've tinkered a lot with the settings at night trying to get the best picture but decided to up the exposure during the daytime and just checked my cameras and on this gray and gloomy day in NEPA, most of the...

You (and @fenderman) are the network security guru(s) here, do you feel they're a threat to the security of someone's home network? Both the Echo and the remote devices like Wemu and/or the smart plug? I know the ioT has been in the news a lot lately for negative stuff, just curious if the...

@nayr, did you have any luck with the Amazon Echo? I'm considering buying one of the Echo Dots and using them with TP-LINK Smart Plug's for lights and a few other things around the house. I was just curious if these are secure, and if not if they are functional if prohibited from...

When is Blue Iris program active?

Adding further to the above two points, laptops aren't very efficient so your best bet is to purchase a dedicated machine if you plan on running the system 24/7. if you're patient you can find a great i5 4690 Elitedesk or OptiPlex for less then $300, some with a 3 year warranty and free shipping.
