T-Mobile 5G Home Internet AND Blue Iris

You're killing me with those speeds...! :(:( My T-Mobile speeds aren't nearly that fast, but since T-Mobile won't give existing customers the new gateway that supports an external antenna I'll have to buy my own. :banghead:

Upgrading Alarm/Security System - Seeking Opinions

That's a pretty slick setup....nice work! I actually prefer Napco security systems over Honeywell, but it would be nice to have a setup like yours instead of just plain jane keypads.

    Sannce PoE cameras static IP

Make sure you hit "Apply" after unchecking the DHCP box and then reboot the NVR. Go into the setup menu for each camera individually and see what options you have available there to configure the IP address. I'm not familiar with Sannce NVR's so I'm flying blind without full visibility to your...

Upgrading Alarm/Security System - Seeking Opinions

I'll darn near guarantee those original smoke detectors probably don't even work anymore and would install separate battery powered units ASAP. Cosmo does make a combo smoke/CO detector because I have them on my Honeywell Vista system. You'll want to get the four wire version in order for the...

Can't access configurations in Smart PSS

Change the date in Smart PSS that you're trying to view saved video from to a more recent date and see if there's recorded video. If not then check your NVR record settings for that particular camera since it may not be set up properly to record video. When you do a firmware update on an NVR...

How many watts do you think these cameras will actually use?

We have several of the PoE Texas Gen2 testers where I work and they've held up well and have been invaluable for our PoE testing. The newest version of this tester is 2.5, but I didn't check to see what the enhanced features are compared to Gen2...

max HDMI distance from comms rack to TV to view live feed

How many days of video do you keep for a home system?

I have 10 cameras recording 24/7 and the NVR drive storage overwrites about every 2-3 weeks unattended. If I see something I want to save then I clip it before it gets overwritten.

Newbie question about cable run through attic in Indiana

Running cheaper and less capable LAN cable is not where you want to be frugal because it is the backbone of the entire system. If you want to have lower bandwidth capacity and higher risks for crosstalk interference to save a few bucks then run Cat5e. If you want higher bandwidth capacity with...

Looking for some opinions on my setup concept

I think you will regret mounting cameras on the 2nd story for many reasons. You might consider pole mounted cameras in your application and then you can deploy 360-degree PTZ cameras and fixed cameras, plus the system can be easily expanded or modified as desired. I only have one camera mounted...

    Lorex 4K Doorbell

Yes....I prefer and like the wide angle view as well. My front porch sets up high so I automatically get the head to toe view on approach to the front steps, plus a wide angle street view. I'm not sure if they'll be using the same phone app or a new and different one for the 4K version.

I have the Lorex 2K version and it's fine unless you have to zoom in close and then it gets blurry. Maybe I'll upgrade to 4K when and if the price is right. :lmao:

Newbie question about cable run through attic in Indiana

I call it future proofing your network infrastructure and to me running Cat6 is just a no brainer because it's a much better quality cable than Cat5e. I work in commercial A/V and we don't use Cat5e for anything, so everything I run is either Cat6 and up or fiber optic.

[Setup recommendation please] TPLink IP Cam - local laptop & synch to Google Drive

That looks good, but the NVR needs adequate ventilation otherwise it will overheat, so I wouldn't bury it inside a steel box. You might want to also consider a dedicated display for the NVR...I have a Samsung PC display connected to my NVR and the camera views continuously scroll in sequence or...

Newbie question about cable run through attic in Indiana

Cat5e will work but it's old school and you're better off using Cat6 if you haven't bought the cable yet. Is Cat6 really better than Cat5e? Compared to Cat5/5e cables, Cat6 cables have stricter performance specifications and significantly higher data transfer speeds at greater distances. They...

Camera option for area I can’t get Ethernet wire to? Outer GA door area.

Camera option for area I can’t get Ethernet wire to? Outer GA door area.

What are your blocking restrictions from running an Ethernet cable to the garage...?? Does your garage have a soffit..?? Even with Wi-Fi you'll need a way to power the camera unless you like changing batteries all the time.

[Setup recommendation please] TPLink IP Cam - local laptop & synch to Google Drive

You could consider either an NVR or NAS drive and then sync the NAS drive to Google Drive, or just use a PC based setup with adequate drive space.

[Setup recommendation please] TPLink IP Cam - local laptop & synch to Google Drive

I would not recommend using a laptop to record because they are extremely limited on drive storage space and their behavior can be unpredictable at times with random shut-downs or reboots, going to sleep, battery issues, etc.

    How are Dahua doorbells?

The Lorex doorbell camera I have works very well and actually better than I had expected. It has it's own app for notifications and remote access plus also works with my NVR for 24/7 recording and playback, but no Alexa support. I guess it depends on what you're looking for.
