How to wire/install when soffits are too high?

Break out your checkbook because hiring a contractor won't be cheap depending on how many wire runs you're installing and the complexity of the job.

How to wire/install when soffits are too high?

Consider mounting the cameras on posts located away from the house. That does require setting the posts and running conduit and wires to them, but it gives you more options and better area coverage. Plus you don't have to worry about heights and drilling into siding and soffits. Posts might...

    Junction box ethernet grommet?

You could just use a different box that is more compatible with your cameras because the pictures you show indicate those boxes are more application specific and won't easily adapt to your cameras. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JR0JNKQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Junction box ethernet grommet?

I don't know what your point A to point B looks like, but I just used standard gray flex conduit and connectors going into the junction boxes. The RJ45 connectors were installed last after the cable pulls were done. If you use camera junction boxes then you'll need to use threaded inserts to...

Lorex Security is not connecting to the internet

You need to log into the NVR GUI interface and see how the network is currently configured whether it is set for static IP address or DHCP mode. Set it to DHCP mode and see it the NVR connects to the network with the new router. If you don't know how to do that then perhaps you could find...

POE IP cameras with no recorder needed questions from an abject newbie.

Sounds like you will need a camera with built-in SD disk storage capability and then access it via the PC.

What dash cam are you using?

Yeah....I got hit back in September (not my fault) so I'm looking for a dashcam now since dumb & dumber are out there driving on the roads every day. :lmao: :lmao:

New build CAT6 camera cabling through a wall

Some two-story Florida houses are built with cinder block for the first floor and then typical wood framing on the upper story. Mine was a single story house with cinder block construction and Stucco finish on the outside. The wall studs were metal so it was easy to run cable or you could even...

New build CAT6 camera cabling through a wall

The house was built in 1983 and the cinder block walls were not insulated, but it passed code inspections and most Florida houses are built that way. Perhaps things are done differently today given the new "Green Certified" building standards.

New build CAT6 camera cabling through a wall

The way cinder blocks are made, drilling through the mortar joint could cause the block to crack. I always drill where the open voids are in the block which is less prone to crack and doesn't affect the structural integrity of the block on the side edges or in the center. I've drilled a lot of...

New build CAT6 camera cabling through a wall

My house in Florida had cinder block walls and there was no insulation behind the drywall. The attic had blown in insulation but that was it.

New build CAT6 camera cabling through a wall

Given that type of drywall mounting process you might not have much choice but to drill a hole through the block to run the cable through and then seal around it. Ideally you could run a short piece of PVC conduit through the block wall and into a box mounted on the outside which would help...

    Shielded cable help

Try to buy a manufactured pre-terminated shielded Ethernet cable with a shielded connector or shield connection only on one end. You can't because they don't exist.

New build CAT6 camera cabling through a wall

I ran Cat6 cables from the cameras to an in-wall electrical box with flush mounted keystone jacks on the wall right behind the NVR location and then just use patch cables from the wall to the NVR ports as needed. There's lots of ways the OP can go with running cables but we don't know enough...

New build CAT6 camera cabling through a wall

A few more photos higher up the wall and from outside might help provide a better view of your installation area. I would not bury any boxes hidden behind the drywall because you may need to access them in the future, so an electrical box with a blank cover plate would be better if you use boxes.

Giving up on PC + Blue Iris- should I try an NVR?

Giving up on PC + Blue Iris- should I try an NVR?

Come on now....you know that's not quite true. Windows PC's are known to randomly reboot on their own for various reasons or if Microsoft pushes a MANDATORY update that installs itself even if auto updates are disabled. My NVR has been running several years without even a hiccup and it doesn't...

How to ideally seal a cable hole in a 5" PVC camera mounting box?

I did mine the same way except I went through the left side rear instead of underneath. I also used gray flex conduit so the wire is not exposed at all.

Lorex System. Can I use other branded camera's?

No....I added a Sunba P636 V2 PTZ camera without any issues. The Sunba specific feature configuration has to be done through it's webpage and not the NVR, but that is common across the board. The Lorex cameras are just rebranded Dahua models.

    Writing to two HDs

Synology is still king when it comes to NAS management software and running various apps, plus they have an established long track record history of reliability. Given the high cost investment of NAS units, product reliability and manufacturer support are critical elements.

    Writing to two HDs

No....Synology did not lock down their NAS units to only use Synology HDD's because I just set up a brand new DSM923+ this week with Seagate Red Wolf 16TB drives and it works fine.. They do insist that you use their brand of SSD drives if you want support, but even that isn't mandatory.

    Writing to two HDs

Why would you even need a backup at all...? You're talking hours and hours of saved video to sort through to find a specific event. My NVR can save up to two weeks of video before it overwrites again, but I've never had a need to go back that far to find something. You could use a NAS storage...

To each his own but the NUC suits me just fine...and as I said earlier, I have no extra space for a regular size PC. :)
