I've been running Blue Iris since 2016, and currently have 7 no-name cameras covering my home interior and exterior running on an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU with 6GB of RAM. I use the indoor cameras for pet/pet-sitter monitoring and the exterior ones for identification in case of trespassers...
Thanks, everyone. Based on the review that @EMPIRETECANDY linked to and other bits of info online, it doesn't look like these cameras have onboard dewarping function or the ability to send separate dewarped streams to BI. It appears that BI can provide a dewarped panoramic view during playback...
Thanks @sebastiantombs. I will likely buy from Andy, but need to first understand whether the camera is likely to meet my needs. Can you provide any info on the streams that the camera can provide and how BI handles the video? That's what I'm trying to find out but I've not been able to find any...
Thanks. That looks like an unbranded Dahua N55CT5. Can you tell me a bit about how Blue Iris handles it? Does it provide dewarped streams or a PTZ emulated mode that BI recognizes? Is Blue Iris still limited to dwarping only the recorded footage or can it dewarp the live video as well? How well...
Can anyone help with info on PoE fisheye cameras for use with Blue Iris 5?
I'm trying to achieve maximum coverage of the interior and perimeter of a small (1,000 sqft) house on a 12,000 sqft lot. I'm hoping to keep the cost below $1-2k total for 2 interior and 2 exterior cameras, if possible. I...
All the recommendations I've seen say that for best results, get an i5 or i7 CPU with QuickSync. I have a surplus i3-3220 @3.30GHz with Quicksync. Would it be worth trying to use this for 8-10 cameras in Blue Iris?
Has anyone had any luck building (or purchasing at a reasonable price) a PoE camera that can remain submerged in shallow water and would be small enough to be relatively unobtrusive in a 75 gallon freshwater aquarium?
I want a "fishcam" and feel like it would look best if it were actually in...
Turns out the PC i got has WiFi, so I'm just gonna connect it to the LAN over that and use the built-in NIC for the camera network. That should keep it super simple and I don't even have to find a second ethernet card!
It's a Dell Vostro 470 with i7-3770 @3.40GHz and 8GB RAM
Do the Dahua Starlight turrets not have a problem with spiderwebs? I have some cheap-o hosafe turrets and I'm constantly dealing with spiderwebs. I assumed that only a dome camera would be any better, but the Starlights look awesome, and if they could solve my spiderweb issue - even better.
Thanks @crw030 & @fenderman. I'm going to go the Blue Iris route. Found a cheap used i7 desktop and a $60 FS728TP 24-port PoE smart switch. It sounds like I'll need to throw in a router or firewall that can understand VLANs though. Wouldn't a trunk port just forward all traffic, regardless of...
But if the NVR is on its own VLAN, how do I access it from my default VLAN for management or monitoring? Wouldn't I need a router that understands VLANs? This is a pretty simple residential-type network with a typical Comcast cable modem/wifi router
My concerns are with allowing other devices on the LAN to have network access to the cameras directly. When the cameras are connected to the switch in the NVR, they are isolated from the rest of the LAN and can only be accessed by first logging into the NVR.
The PoE functionality is built into the circuit board that the ethernet camera ports are soldered to, and the NVR only functions if that module is completely disconnected, so I don't think there's any way to use the IP camera ports, even with an external switch.
The LAN port for the NVR is...
That's a good suggestion; I need to test it. My two concerns are that 1) The NVR might only talk to cameras over the switch ports and 2) If it will talk to them over its primary LAN port, that would mean the cameras would be reachable by other devices on the same LAN unless I isolate them with...
The integrated PoE switch is what failed. The device boots successfully, but once powered up, it is totally unresponsive and after about 60 seconds it automatically reboots. If I disconnect the ribbon cable to the PoE module, it starts successfully, is fully responsive and stays online, but...
Note that the switch you linked to does not power PoE devices; rather, the switch itself can be powered by PoE.

Hello, I am trying to replace a failed NVR system for my local animal rescue facility. The system they had was an NVR16P from ATVideo (8 and 16 Channel NVR with PoE | Network Recorders | IP Video Solutions | Products | Advanced Technology Video)
The facility already has about 12 fixed-dome PoE...
Is it not possible to use the Doorbird without an internet connection? I keep all of my cameras on an isolated VLAN which can only communicate with my BlueIris server. I don't trust them enough for internet access
I completely agree with you, but securing inbound access from the internet is a completely different matter and one that is fairly well understood by security conscious users. I'm talking about unauthorized network access over existing physical LAN connections attached to accessible IP cameras...
Your router most likely performs this function by blocking the MAC or IP of the device. Plugging in a device with a different MAC or IP would easily bypass this restriction, not to mention that blocking internet access doesn't prevent the rogue device from accessing anything on your local network.
Thanks, nayr, those are all great suggestions. I currently have my cameras on an isolated switch, but haven't yet implemented a VPN for accessing the NVR (I'm running BlueIris).
Do IP cameras frequently support RADIUS authentication? I'm pretty sure that mine don't, since I initially just needed...
What solutions have you found to secure your network from unauthorized access through the LAN connection on an IP camera? I'm considering an IP doorbell camera, but one thing that concerns me is that ability of a technically savvy intruder to access the LAN connection in the back of the camera...
Neither the Ring Pro nor Doorbird seem great - they don't support ONVIF or POE and the ring Pro has some pretty scathing reviews on Amazon. Sounds like the jury is still out on the performance of the Dahua, but the specs indicate that it does support POE you can find it unbranded on Aliexpress...
