New to LPR? Considerations Before You Begin

Anything stand out in the above? One issue I noticed is I had a mismatch on frame rate between BI and the cam so not sure if that was causing the blurring on moving plates (though they are not moving very fast there).

Shots of settings below. Focus is what I set it to (and what I set it in the Dahua utility to)..

New to LPR? Considerations Before You Begin

Weird. Went out a couple nights ago and sat in the road focusing on my plate with 1/1000 exposure, 50 HLC. Everything looked great. But capturing way less now with blurry plates unless they are fully stopped at the stop sign. Reducing FPS the cause? I.e, wouldn't more frames per second give...

New to LPR? Considerations Before You Begin

No worries about traffic. It’s a stub street into the subdivision so rarely busy, certainly not at the times I’d be concerned with (between midnight and 5 sort of thing).

Yeah figured it out minutes after I posted. Heading to London this weekend so should have put on my English hat. :) Isn’t the IR much less effective at say 200 feet than 100 feet?

That will have to wait until winter is done so I can repoint the camera. What does “not worry about the gutters” mean?

So change to 15fps on the cam (as well as I Frame Interval) and on BI?

Not sure, where do I check if it is using a substream? Seems to say mainstream in the General window (can't snip it as when I use Snipping tool what's in the status window dissappears):

Hmm...just went out and did a night time focus on my own plate. One thing I just realized, when I'm viewing the camera feed directly from the camera web GUI, it looks much sharper than what I am getting off of BI? Both are set to the same fps (30). Anything else I should be checking?

New to LPR? Considerations Before You Begin

Biggest problem seems to be the oncoming headlights which can sometimes “black out” the plate. Or a plate that just doesn’t seem to get an IR boost. I’m getting most plates, but trying to see if there are things I can adjust to get a bit better without losing the ability to see the 3 lanes...

New to LPR? Considerations Before You Begin

Below. My cameras are where the white circle is. One issue is that I'm capturing cars coming dead on, so at night, full blown headlights. Been using HLC of 50, but wonder if I should ramp that up to 70? Day capture: Night capture (at 1/500, if I go to 1/1000 things start to get too...

    IPC-T5442T-ZE IPC-T5442TM-AS latest new firmware General_IPC-HX5XXX-Volt_MultiLang_NP_Stream3_V2.800.15OG004.0.R.201203

Damn, had no idea you could focus from the Live window, that works perfectly vs trying to use the focus window while staring at BI!

Does anyone have the Focus and Zoom window actually working outside of Internet Explorer (which I don't even think is updated anymore)? Have tried Firefox, Chrome, Edge ... nada. Would be a lot easier to focus (my LPR!) if the screen you made adjustments in was the same one. I am doing it...

New to LPR? Considerations Before You Begin

Distance is about 100-120 feet. Unfortunately, short of putting up a 3rd camera in the spot (one is general viewing, the other is dedicated LPR), stuck with trying to capture two lanes with the one camera so can't zoom in much more (I'm at 900 on the manual zoom). Was just curious if there...

New to LPR? Considerations Before You Begin

Helpful thread. Been using the 5241-z12 for a while trying to capture 2 lanes which poses challenges. Curious, are their significantly better options out there for double or triple the price? Or would some sort of long range IR device be better recommended? Have been using 1/500 exposure and...

    Issues with DS-2CD2347G1-LU

Yea that’s what I did for 7 out of 8 cameras..both in the camera and on my router as a reservation. For some reason I only did it in my camera and not on the router this time, and the DHCP server must have served up the same IP address to the AVR for some weird reason. It shouldn’t do that but...

    Issues with DS-2CD2347G1-LU

Ha...embarrassed to say this after buying the budget cam. I figured out the issue when I was in my basement watching a movie. The new AV Receiver I purchased seemed to be acting up and I was unable to download an update to it. So I check the network settings, for some reason my router leased...

    Issues with DS-2CD2347G1-LU

Nothing seemed to help (grease, spray cleaner, etc), so ended up buying a budget Dahua IPC-T2431T-AS turret as I've been curious about these. Certainly no where near the build quality of the 5442 or DS-2CD2347G1-LU, but for CAD$100 seems like a great camera for the price, and perfectly stable...

    Issues with DS-2CD2347G1-LU

24v power supply...the POE adapter? I think it's just the camera at this point. It's more stable (use it on a TinyCam dashboard setup I have with Sharptools.io). But similar to before, even when it is up, something is wonky with the web interface. Sometimes it just hangs when I'm in there...

    Issues with DS-2CD2347G1-LU

Power certainly does not seem to be the issue. Right now I can’t connect to the camera and it doesn’t display an image in BI or another camera app. But the LED light is super bright (think I put it on a timer as I was resetting it earlier).

    Issues with DS-2CD2347G1-LU

Will do. When I eventually put it back on (this camera or another), would I simply lather the male and female CAT5/6 connectors with the grease and then connect them together, put them into the junction box, and bob's your uncle?

    Issues with DS-2CD2347G1-LU

Okay, managed to get in and reset the camera to factory defaults, and set it back up again. At this point, I wonder if it is just the camera that is caput. Will try the grease, but given how clean the connections and junction box were, I doubt it is corrosion unfortunately.

    Issues with DS-2CD2347G1-LU

Is it possible to reset the camera to factory defaults using the SADP tool? Do I have to check unbind or something?

    Issues with DS-2CD2347G1-LU

...and now getting... Error 403: Forbidden Access Forbidden That seems like a really weird error to be getting I would think. As an FYI, have my cameras only accessible via VPN (through Wireguard on an RPi).

    Issues with DS-2CD2347G1-LU

Really weird, camera seems to be working, but then when I try to access it via a web browser I can see the camera start to go offline on my phone app. Almost as if it doesn't like it when it's already being used to stream and then someone accesses it via web browser. Sometimes as well on the...

    Issues with DS-2CD2347G1-LU

Tried swapping my Driveway camera with my Front door camera on the POE switch. The Driveway camera works fine, the Front Door one is still having issues. So I think that narrows it down to the camera (will try a reset if I can get it back up and running), or corrosion on the camera connector?

    Issues with DS-2CD2347G1-LU

Sorry my bad, actually that's the original switch I had, I replaced it with this one and have been using this with the cameras. Ignore the price, it was $50-70 or something when purchased. Maybe it's starting to go given the brand...

    Issues with DS-2CD2347G1-LU

Well that’s weird. The camera won’t even turn on when I use a PoE adapter for it instead of the switch POE port. Using an adapter from a TP-Link EAP 225v3 access point which I assume should work fine.

    Issues with DS-2CD2347G1-LU

Have updated the firmware, which reboots it, not sure if that works similar to a reset but also not sure why resetting would help as I haven't changed a setting on it in years! Haven't ruled out the camera yet as it does still keep coming in and out, though it stays on much longer than it used...
