Hikvision Permanent Region Change
There's no checks for CH versus WR etc so it's not needed and wouldn't cause any upgrade problems. Maybe one day in the future but then hackers will just change that also. Probably better for Hikvision not to do anything that a) won't help them anyway and b) cause support confusion with hacked... -

2CD2035 update from 5.4.0
You can update via TFTP and files from the Hikvision China firmware page. BUT, camera will be Chinese after so I wouldn't unless there's some really important specific need and it being Chinese doesn't matter. Though looking at the China page now looks like yours is already the latest firmware... -

Suspicious open ports router
Clearly a false positive (those ports are normal) but I always applaud people for checking for themselves rather than just blindly assuming any network connected device is secure (Hikvision or anything else). -

Help Needed
I suspect it was changing the port numbers that did it. For some reason that bug has been around on all models of Hikvision cameras, English and Chinese for at least a year. If they show on SADP even briefly maybe you can change http back to port 80 within SADP if you get the timing right. -

Help identifying counterfeit hikvision...
There are different designs of PCB and lens units etc made by Hikvision. Check for the SD card slot under the lens cover which houses another PCB. Some cameras have one larger PCB sitting on the case, some have half on the case and half in the lens unit. Yours looks to be the latter to me... -

Can't access camera
You could also try downloading their SDK demo, connecting to the camera and try configuring that way probably starting with a configuration reset. Or could try an ONVIF app. Might not work but worth a try :) Maybe also port scan it just to see what ports are open. -

Pretty sure CBX headed in to the sunset well over a year ago. Sent him some emails over that time and never got a response. Others have taken his place - but as long as can still buy cameras for crazy cheap prices (compared to UK prices anyway) that's fine with me :) -

The new(ish) method uses RSA so unless you have Hikvision's private RSA key you can't generate a signed message that would be verified and accepted by the camera over SADP for password reset. They've done that so you can't make a generator for the new method. -

lol - 239.255.255.250 I've never seen Hikvision camera with malware on - hacked or not. I've seen alot of different models, firmware versions etc and done traffic analysis. It doesn't really make sense for the hackers or the sellers to do that as it will just stop people using the product... -

There are different PCB types - but if both cameras have F in the serial, then they should both have SD card slots. If the one without a SD card slot does indeed have F in the serial, then I'd check underneath the lens cover as there is a PCB there also. I very much doubt they've changed the... -

Maybe - though it could still be obtained from capturing the network traffic not to mention a massive pain in the neck for them to potentially have 1000s of customers request that. When buying one of these cameras I think it's best to have the mindset you can't upgrade the firmware on them... -

Some cameras (not sure this model applies) if they don't see packets on the network for a while decide to reset their network interface and put an error in the log. When you do your extended ping test - does the logged error ever occur? If it does during the ping test then my possible... -

Yes they can be updated to later versions using the official Chinese firmware + TFTP Of course afterwards camera will think it's Chinese region as opposed to English region. -

I think the 2942 is supposed to use different firmware normally. Also, importing configuration is a different function - you were using upgrade firmware right? -

That's for a different kind of camera. I have some 2xx5/3xx5 V5.3.3 build 150514 cameras and don't have a problem with SMB. I know that doesn't fix your problem but at least you know :) Or maybe try NFS instead - even if just for a test. -

Just make sure you don't restart your camera before you get and import the .xml Hikvison send you, otherwise it won't be valid and you'll need to do it again. -

I guess because the way it's coded would mean if they took CH in the serial into account, the camera would identify itself as Chinese. Then the hackers would be forced patch the serial so it would be read WR - that would lead to even more confusion for people trying to identify the firmware to...
