Looking for Front Door Wifi Camera

Has anyone had to install a WiFi doorbell with a "Digital Doorbell Adapter"? Turns out we have an electrical chime and our HSDB1 continually rings the bell non stop when installed. It requires a mechanical chime otherwise.

    Current small PTZ favorites

Good morning. I finally have my POE runs installed. I've decided to swap out some of my existing cameras. What are the current small PTZs? I'm hoping to find some option roughly around the size of my turrets. I already own a SD59225U-HNI ..kinda pushing my luck with my wife, so not looking...

    SODIMMs vs DIMMs and Performance

@Walrus It is possible I just have bad luck when looking through specs. Whenever I have had boxes in the past, and they had SODIMMS, I basically wanted to throw it away. I clicked through your links and finally found a spec sheet with the drive bay info. This is a nice computer! Thank you.

    SODIMMs vs DIMMs and Performance

@Walrus I agree...and a lot of times a "desktop" is often times really a laptop in a larger container. That said, all of these Sub $500 BI recommendations seem to always have SODIMMs, which is why I was curious how much of performance hit there would be.

    SODIMMs vs DIMMs and Performance

Thanks @mat200. It's less of what I "need" and more of what I "want". What I want is a form factor to hold an SSD (or NVMe) and qty 2, 3.5" drives. Then in that decision, I want the newest i7 within a price break.

    SODIMMs vs DIMMs and Performance

I'm ready to move to a dedicated BI machine. Is there a performance difference between SODIMMs and regular sized DIMMs? Also, is there a thread where the good deals of the day are being posted? Each time I go look, I cannot find 6th gen i7, with OS, and room for 2 drives, for the great prices...

    Bulkhead cable glands

@looney2ns Thank you for the box referral. I've already mounted and drilled the conduit hole and brought the cables into this box https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077H87S6F/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I just need to pull the trigger on the bulkhead connectors.

    Bulkhead cable glands

Hi @TonyR You are the provider of the CAT6 Cable Side Waterproof Cable Gland on Amazon (13.48) and the I don't see the CAT 6 RJ45 Shielded Industrial Panel Mount Bulkhead Female/Female Feed Thru Coupler ($10.99) on your website. I'm indifferent about saving the 73 cents direct from your...

    Bulkhead cable glands

For my hobby cameras in the back yard, I was considering these bulk head glands and passthrough because I could take cameras up and down, swap them out and pull off the cable on a whim. But at $20 per cable end, they are getting expensive. Does any one else use these? Or should I just use RJ45...

    Fried at connector troubleshooting

I was testing a camera, went inside and it got caught in a sudden downpour. Fried it at the pigtail. When I plug it in via POE, or without POE using a 12 DC power pack, I get activity lights on the switch, but it doesn't seem to be connecting. What's the order of troubleshooting once I take...

    3.5" square pole mount suggestions

Trenches are dug and conduit is laid. Now I'm thinking about mounts. I did not fully consider the diameter of my turrets when I chose the 3.5” x 3.5” pole. The pole isn't going anywhere at this point, so I need to make it work. Could y'all give me mounting suggestions? I have 2 Starlights...

CAT6 Cable... to shield, or not to shield, that is the question

I've got someone digging trenches to lay conduit for cable runs today. Should I insist on burial rated vs gel filled inside of conduit?

Sweet! LTS is releasing an ONVIF compatible doorbell with SD card slot and 940nm IR

I just received a RCA HSDB1. I'd like to test it before I try to install it. Is there anyway to safely step down AC voltage with home hobby gear so I can give it a try and configure before installing? I've got bread boards and DC power packs everywhere, but my understanding is this needs AC.

    Outdoor POE switch in Texas

So, the electrician rescheduled. Lots of repair work still be done from the storm. But that’s okay, because it gives me time to think. When he does my electrical work, I’ve got him also bringIng CAT6 runs to my utility room. Rack is mounted with a patch panel and ready. Total of 24 outdoor and...

    Outdoor POE switch in Texas

@crw030 Thank you for the forum referral. I'll look it over for the next home project. I "need" one cable. I'm pulling four...but learned about pull boxes today, so I'll ask they be installed. I'm also running lines within my house as well.

    Outdoor POE switch in Texas

    Outdoor POE switch in Texas

@tigerwillow1 I think the assumption is the switch outside is the consumable, the two arrestors between the outdoor switch and the indoor switch would guard the indoor components? Not sure. That's why I'm here :p Hopefully I'll end up hurting myself a little less...

    Outdoor POE switch in Texas

I have friends at the MakerSpace advising me I should consider that Texas is a severe weather state. They recommend I run only one line to the pole, put a cheap POE switch in the box, and consider it a consumable item. Then put lightening arrestors on each end of the line. Thoughts? I was...

PCI Compliance and authentication outside the network

@Mike A. Thanks Mike. At "wholesale" rates, we can install a normal NVR system for $3000, $5,000 with all the bells and whistles. Something like Digital Watch-Dog starts at $7,500 per location. I'd really like the enterprise system, but I'd need to get each location back to $3K - $5 for 10-16...

PCI Compliance and authentication outside the network

Here's an example of what they found appropriate. It is an IPVMS system. PCI Compliance and authentication outside the network

The IP based cameras require port forwarding for the franchisees to view their cameras from their phones and to retrieve footage. Port forwarding allows inbound connections which is the issue. In need to authenticate, view and retrieve without the inbound connections.
