Difference between Hikvision 76xx and 78xx series

The different models either use a built in power supply or an external adapter. Either way both use an IEC standard cord and automatically adapt to 120V/60Hz. Update: the DS-7816N-E1 that I just received came with a wall wart with USA prongs and an adapter for 220V.

    Converting a 7608 to a 7616 (or a 7806 to a 7816)

"And getting round the u-boot bootloader captive restricted shell." What do you mean by this? If you are in a u-boot terminal session can you not read flash, erase, and write flash? u-boot can protect sectors but you can disable that protection with the "protect off all" command.

    Converting a 7608 to a 7616 (or a 7806 to a 7816)

Oops, yes 7816N-E1. Thanks for letting me know that I won't have any power supply issues, just need a USA cord and I have lots of them. For either FW, was the default EN for both the Web and VGA logon? Where did you get NVR_(76,77,86-Ex)BL_EN_STD_V3.0.10_141126? I can find it on a HV website...

    Converting a 7608 to a 7616 (or a 7806 to a 7816)

I just ordered a 7616E-N1 (http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/bUae6TMk). I really don't need two hard drive bays, one is enough for my needs. I decided to use an external POE rather than the internal POE model to avoid the fan noise of the POE model. I'm hoping the power adapter is of the type...

    Converting a 7608 to a 7616 (or a 7806 to a 7816)

Wouldn't 3.0.10 be best? I think it fixes an RTSP buffer overflow vulnerability and I believe still has telnet access. Or am I mistaken?

    Converting a 7608 to a 7616 (or a 7806 to a 7816)

Thanks, that is the one I'm contemplating. What FW rev are you running? In all English?

    Converting a 7608 to a 7616 (or a 7806 to a 7816)

Thanks for the reply Alastair. You have dual-core CPUs at twice the frequency. Makes sense that those are rated for 100Mbps vs. the 40Mbps of my unit. I'm thinking about getting the 7816N-E1 or -E2 (I don't really need the second hard drive bay) and I'd like to get one without POE since the...

    Converting a 7608 to a 7616 (or a 7806 to a 7816)

Thanks for the insight. Seems I only have a single core so modifying the FW to think it can handle 16 cameras is probably a non-starter. What do you have in you 7816? # cat cpuinfo Processor : ARMv7 Processor rev 2 (v7l) BogoMIPS : 999.42 Features : swp half thumb fastmult...

Saving Live View configuration on Hikvision DS-7616NI

You should be able to select auto start live view. If you don't have this option you may need a FW upgrade as I think this option was only lately added.

    Converting a 7608 to a 7616 (or a 7806 to a 7816)

I believe that the underlying hardware is the same between the 8- and 16-channel NVRs. The only restriction is the firmware on the 8-channel that restricts it to 8 cameras. Had anyone figured out how to mod the 8-channel to be a 16-channel?

    HikVision DS-7608NI-SE/P - Abnormal Shutdown?!

I had the abnormal shutdown issue too. It turned out to be my hard drive. I was using a regular hard drive and switched it to a Seagate video drive and then a WD purple. The abnormal shutdowns ceased to occur with either drive. I know you're running a WD purple but if you have another drive...

    Hikvision Checksum

I don't dare try either because my 2332 camera did not have a checksum-16. My IPC seems to have either a different checksum or a different mechanism all together. See my post #24 earlier in this thread.

    Hikvision Checksum

Why did you choose the "55/U?" Would it be safer to just add one to the day of the week? I wonder what "HRVKGU" signifies?
  14. S

    Hikvision Checksum

I'll add another data point, 2332 cam, originally 5.2.8 from the factory, now 5.2.0 as delivered from China, in full English including the day of the week. The language flags are 02 but my checksums are not Checksum-16. My NVR does not complain about a "language mismatch." The NVR will...

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

Just update the NVR's firmware and Virtural Host will be an option. It is a really useful option!

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

I'm curious as to why you need the 2nd Ethernet connection. Why not use the NVR's Virtual Host feature to access the IPCs? (Network Settings...Advanced...Enable Virtual Host) This allows you to access each camera connected to the NVR with no special cabling.

Hikvision FIRMWARE TOOLS - change language, extract files and create own firmware

I just tried it on a 2532 cam that left the factory with 5.2.8 and arrived with 5.2.3 in full English, including the day of the week. The firmware changed the IPC to 5.2.5 but in full Chinese, no English anywhere. I wonder why it worked for your IPCs but not mine? I wonder if there is...

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

I'm wondering if anyone with a DS-7608NI-E2/8P NVR could post the results of the "gethardinfo" when telnet'd into their NVR? I want to see how close it is to the OEM version of the NVR that I have. Here is my result: # getHardInfo Start at 2015-02-27 07:13:25 Serial NO : <omitted> V3.0.8...

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

Look at these MagLev fans: http://www.sunon.com/tw/products/pdf/maglev.pdf The manufacturer makes noise and reliability their main concern. I haven't tried one yet but they seem to at least address the noise issue. Also, these NVR's are rated to operate at ambient temps up to 55C (130F)...

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

Without the NVR you would use your PC which means all traffic goes to your main router then to the PC running Blue Iris or whatever. This will use bandwidth to your PC and compete with traffic to your PC such as VoIP or watching Netflix on your PC. I guess I should have been more specific.

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

Thanks philip da. I think I can just make out the Delta P/N as DPS-200PB-185 A. Those 1U fans (40mm x 40mm x 15mm) are loud. I have mine in a closed door closet so it doesn't really bother me now, except when I go in that closet which is rare. I DO LIKE the NVR, it does what it is supposed...

HikVision DS-7608NI-E2/8P - some pics and first impressions

chrstodav, thanks for the pics. Would you mind posting a clearer pic of the power supply or simply the make/model#/etc. of the PS? How loud is the fan? I know that is subjective but I can here mine 30 feet away so I keep it in a closet with the door CLOSED! Below is a pic of the PS that is...

Hikvision NVR with POE; adding non-POE WiFi IPCam help needed

The 40mm 1U power supply fan is loud. I've relagated the system to a closet that normally has its door shut so I no longer hear it. There are quieter 12V fans you could retrofit the power supply with but they will have a lower CFM rating so the PSU might get warm. Probably only an issue if...

Hikvision NVR with POE; adding non-POE WiFi IPCam help needed

I'm wondering if I could ask for your suggestions. The OEM version of the Hikvision DS-7608NI-SE/8P NVR that I have isn't really cutting it. One, its POE power supply (fan) is loud, like you can hear it 20 feet (6m) away no problem loud (is this normal?). Two, the darn thing BEEPs every once...

Hikvision NVR with POE; adding non-POE WiFi IPCam help needed

I tried again and this time was successful in getting continuous record to work. Of course that's not really what I want as that will fill the hard drive quickly so I'll simply rely on the local camera storage feature. Thanks for all the help.

Hikvision NVR with POE; adding non-POE WiFi IPCam help needed

Hikvision NVR with POE; adding non-POE WiFi IPCam help needed

That worked milkisbad, thank you. I can see the video on the NVR. The NVR won't trigger and record motion on the WiFi cam though. I'm not sure why? It is a Foscam FI9831W that I had and I set it up as ONVIF. The Foscam is recording on its SD card but if I try to access the NVR's motion...
