2nd story home, high up conduit installation advice

Thanks, and yeah, I saw that ladder.... and I don't think it is tall enough, I mean it might be, but I'd be nervous, LOL. Maybe if I also get a climbing harness, anchor myself to something on the other side of the house, and throw a rope over the roof. That's getting a little excessive, but I...

2nd story home, high up conduit installation advice

Oh yeah I should have specified, it is on a concrete slab. No basement here, it is South Texas so pretty much no houses have basements. I want the line protected by conduit since the sun here is brutal. I have a few gutters on the house and can run it down next to one of those so it blends...

    Bullet Camera Mounting Box

I know this is an older post, but I saw this and had a good laugh! Because that is EXACTLY what I did about 9 years ago. I just didn't know any better and wanted to get the job done so up in the attic I went a crawling, glasses fogging up, having a hard time breathing with my respirator on...

2nd story home, high up conduit installation advice

So, I've always been somewhat of a DIY'er and I did all the camera runs in my last 1-story home. However this new home I bought has me a little stumped as to exactly how I might safely install some security cameras on this new house. I've already determined from reading this site that the...

Any reason not to just replace most cable lines with cat6?

Well... I was thinking I could tape cat6 cable to the end of the coax and pull it. But then again that cable is rather stiff/rigid so I'm not sure how well that will work depending on how many bends it makes and what all it goes through. I guess I would have to test that to see!

Any reason not to just replace most cable lines with cat6?

I bought a new house recently. It is about 12 years old. In the master bedroom closet there is a junction box of sorts that I believe splits and amplifies the cable to other rooms in the house. My internet comes in to a modem through the cable line, so I need at least one of these but so far as...

    Full System Upgrade

How much do you think 32GB RAM helps? I got an EliteDesk 800 G2 SFF i5-6500, it has 8GB RAM, might upgrade to 16 but don't know how much of a difference 32 GB would make. I haven't set up Blue Iris yet, still in the gathering phase of my project, might run up to 16 cameras but will probably...

    $2M House Install (est. 1925)

That is honestly a pretty sweet house for $2 million. Must be in one of the more sane parts of the country. I don't even want to know what that might cost on the West Coast where it cost half a million for a mundane cookie cutter home.

Pulling Wire for Newbies without Damaging Walls

I have a house with brick, is it possible (or even advisable) to get the cable to go from the attic down the wall between the brick and the sheathing in the "air gap" space and to a hole in the masonry? Or would it be better to just run conduit outside on the wall to a camera if I want the...

    Prospective Cameras

Where do you buy these products? Or is linking to commercial sites frowned upon here? Just wondering where people usually buy cameras at, I'm new and it was clear to get a refurbished PC off ebay, but now that I am thinking about getting cameras not so sure where to go. The above link is just...

    Hello, from South-central Texas

So what is the reasoning for running two lines to each location/camera?

    Hello, from South-central Texas

Greetings! This place seems to be a wealth of specialized knowledge so I am looking forward to building a really cool new how security camera system for my next house. I will be moving in about a month so I have time to prepare and research what I should be getting. My older (current) home...

Newbie question on HDDs for BI computer

This is my first post, I had to ask this question! So I have read some of the wiki and this page: Choosing Hardware for Blue Iris | IP Cam Talk The general consensus seems to be that the most cost effective solution is getting one of these smaller Intel based work computers refurbished. The...
