Something to note about Amazon and HIK

They can but it will be taken down. It's not unusual, for example Axis and ACTi don't allow it's products to be listed for below list price, or what the industry calls MAP pricing or they take your partnership away.

Something to note about Amazon and HIK

People don't want to pay Hikvision USA prices, they want the cheap Amazon from China price, it is what it is. Unless they actually advertise Hikvision USA, there's a 101% chance it's not. My daughter started selling genuine Hikvision USA cameras and was told to stop by Hikvision USA, so it is...

    Downgrade Hikvision Camera

You can easily downgrade to 5.2.3 using TFTP which forces that firmware on. The camera will have 5.2.3 on it but will not work at all. If you want, you can also downgrade to 5.2.0, 5.1.6, 5.1.2 and so on if your goal is to brick your camera.

    Dahua IPC-HFW2300R-Z Low Bitrate

I would agree on your definition of VBR, but at least on Hikvision I tested, I found fluctuations in bitrate with VBR or CBR that were not that far apart, meaning CBR was just as variable as VBR. I'll have to test Dahua for fun to see if it's the same.

    Dahua IPC-HFW2300R-Z Low Bitrate

I haven't done this with Dahua, but on Hikvision, I got the best image quality and bit rate using CBR.

    English Language

You can just change the region code to English on those older cameras, takes a minute and the camera will be permanently English. Just look for my region code hack here - http://www.ipcamtalk.com/hikvision/2593-hikvison-permanent-region-code-hack.html

Hikvision FIRMWARE TOOLS - change language, extract files and create own firmware

Could be that model has that file. The equivalent on the 2-cd2xxx cameras is /dav/davinvi.tar.gz and that's been hacked before to make the day of week English, but it's somehow protected now, maybe by checksum or other ways. Anyway, both are lzma compressed, so a good place to start is to...

Hikvision FIRMWARE TOOLS - change language, extract files and create own firmware

Your English is fine, it's my camera's English that's not so fine. I figured out if you do a nandump -f mymtd11 /dev/mtd11, it will create a file where I can extract the initrd from, unzips fine. Yes, I see the check_rs232 file in there. So I took the entire MTD11 from the camera hacked to...

DS-2CD2732F-IS bricked I think, Need Help ASAP.

Clearly if the browser won't let you apply a firmware upgrade, you are taking a huge risk using TFTP as that's forcing firmware on there not meant for the camera. If you want, PM me and I have 5.2.5 firmware with menus in English you can put on there and possibly get it back.

    Attic Rated POE Switch?

I've been using a ZyXel switch in my garage attic for about 2 years here in So Cal. Can't imagine a sunnier location in the U.S. They cost a little more than the cheaper tp-link and trendnet but has a lifetime warranty and their offices are in the U.S. Here's a link on where to buy them that's...

Hikvision FIRMWARE TOOLS - change language, extract files and create own firmware

I did do that, provides me with a files system I mounted that's the initial file system used to boot the camera, so that's half the equation. The problem is this, I need to compare it to the initrd that's inside the camera hacked to English as there's a difference, but I can't extract the initrd...

Hikvision FIRMWARE TOOLS - change language, extract files and create own firmware

    Where is this check_rs232 you speak off? I see a symbolic link to /bin/da-info. Is there another one I'm not aware of? # ls -l check_rs232 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 Feb 22 15:51 check_rs232 -> /bin/da_info

I checked a Chinese and a camera hacked to English with 5.2.5 and /bin/da_info (that contains check_rs232) are identical.

Hikvision FIRMWARE TOOLS - change language, extract files and create own firmware

I had an idea. Clearly the camera boots off mtd11 initially and that reboots the kernel in mtd13. Since the issue with firmware seems to be checked at the kernel level, why not copy the kernels from a pre-5.2.5 camera, then you can a) install older firmware, b) do the mtd5/6 hack. Any error with...

    Dahua SD42212SN PTZ experiences

I downgrade the firmware to 2013 firmware and the camera is much more responsive, no lag issue. I actually like the IPC-HFW2300R-Z and thought about replacing an older ACTi camera I have with it. Someone said ones that came in a color box were bad, don't know, but mine came in a brown box from...

I just got a new Dahua PTZ with this firmware 2.420.0001.0.R, build : 2014-06-07. Does anyone else have this firmware installed? Want to get feedback if there's issues with either this firmware or older firmware before I try older firmware. For me it's gets intermittently laggy, like 5-7...

Hikvision FIRMWARE TOOLS - change language, extract files and create own firmware

I tried far manager, same issue. What I want to do is this. I want to take /dev/mtd11 which contains initrd and mount initrd looking for what's different. I can do this with hroot.img, no problem, but when I do the same with mtd11 it creates an initrd.gz and it has valid gzip header, but far...

Vandal proof cameras with PIR in the camera - any suggestions?

We used a bunch of Mobotix domes and not once were we able to leverage the built-in PIR motion detection due to distance or width, so not sure there's value add. Not only do they still offer the same pricing as 5 years ago, but they still use older technology, so I see their value proposition ;)...

Hikvision FIRMWARE TOOLS - change language, extract files and create own firmware

Do you have any insight as to where the day of week characters are and how one can modify the firmware to make them English in a Chinese region code camera? Also, the firmware contains an initrd image in hroot.img. When it makes it to the camera, it appears to be /dev/mtd11. When I bypass the...

Purchasing first Hikvision for Outside (DS-2CD2332-I)

I have one 2.8mm camera in my house and that's at the front door. There's two anomalies that happens with 2.8mm, first the IR LEDs never seems to put out as wide a coverage as the lens, so you end up getting a flashlight effect where it's bright down the center and virtually no light at the...

Hikvision FIRMWARE TOOLS - change language, extract files and create own firmware

This is an OEM version of the NVR, hence the "Hikvison made". OEM products have a different set of firmware and you can't use Hikvision firmware. Contact the seller and ask them for the latest firmware. This is why my kid stopped carrying OEM Hik's because someone would figure out a way to force...

Purchasing first Hikvision for Outside (DS-2CD2332-I)

One thing to consider that's more important then field of view is pixel density. Figure that you will need a persons face to be about 85 pixels tall to be identifiable. In practical terms, find that to be about 15' away with a 2.8mm lens and the 4mm is 25' in 3MP mode and 4mm covers my 3 car...

Purchasing first Hikvision for Outside (DS-2CD2332-I)

Cool tool but not very accurate. For that camera, the FOV depends on resolution, so for; 2.8mm 1080P=98.5, 3MP=86 degrees 4mm 1080P=79, 3MP=70 degrees 6mm 1080P=49 3MP=43.3 degrees 12mm 1080P=23.2, 3MP=20.6 degrees What I tell people is to get a google map of your home and use a protactor to...

Hikvision FIRMWARE TOOLS - change language, extract files and create own firmware

I don't see why not, it's been done before with 5.2.0 that someone posted. I took a look extracting initrd from mtd11 and having trouble. There's a 64 byte header, then a gzip file, When I extract this from the MTD11 dump, the file has a standard GZIP header, the only quirk is the flag is 08...
