    AI Good and Bad

It's either a flawed study, or flawed in selection bias. A doctor recently installed a heart valve backward at OHSU, with no assistance. 10% of serious health conditions are the result of medical intervention already. It's possible the incompetent physicians are more likely to leverage AI.

    Funny / Satire

Weird considering women rank the average man a 3 out of 10 in attractiveness (men rate the average woman a 5).

I've said that I would pay less to stand on a flight than sit in the crappy economy seats. Roll me into a VR burrito and ship me somewhere for less than economy currently costs, and I'll choose that.

Property taxes should be illegal. In every other scenario, tax is levied as a percentage of gain. Property tax is a penalty for continuing to own a thing, with no end to that penalty. Why not have property tax on your car, tee shirts, and tooth brushes? Continue owning a TV, property tax...

I arrested a guy who smashed a window at Nancy Jo's burgers while I was ordering. He was in no hurry to get away in the progressive city, but I grabbed his collar bone and told him he would be coming with me, and asked if there would be any problems. He said no. When the cops got there they knew...

Humans are racing against time to find a new habitable planet

Entropy demands a continual search for more. Our meager capabilities are more a hindrance to flourishing than what some view as excessive exploitation. That said, we do not live by bread alone.

    Electrical Inspection Wall Of Shame

I went the opposite direction and yanked my doorbell and transformer out, then put RJ-45 ends on the cat3 cable to run PoE to a Reolink doorbell cam. Weird that a finished house with conduit to the doorbell didn't have a doorbell installed at the time of construction.

Sharia, Islam, Muslim .. pay attention to your blind spots

Pretty easy to hate, hate. Wherever I see hate, I hate it. I have no tolerance for it, and religions motivated by it. By no tolerance, I mean 1 step further than whatever the hate-filled ideology prescribes, but a decisive step. That position itself harbors no hate; it's a pragmatic reaction to...

I did not click the link based on the title, honest. Thought it said Bobby cam, which is a better excuse, somehow.

Why do so many people here dislike Wi-Fi cameras?

I'm baffled as to why standard construction doesn't include conduit for running whatever later on. PVC is practically nothing. I have relatively easy attic access (16" rafters) that gives access to the 2nd story including the garage. Placed my network hub in the coat closet which is relatively...

Abusive Boyfriend tries to run over girlfriend who jumped out of moving car - Instead Hits a Parked Car

Which part of Somalia did you say you live? South-central Somalia? I'll reiterate the craziest thing that has gone down in my neighborhood is some kids took a 6-pack of Coke (the drink) from an unlocked car. I'm probably the biggest hooligan in the hood.

100%. And those who think there's better places to be should figure out how to get there, and I'd be happy to pack their bags and wish them a pleasant journey.

    Progressive Liberal Hypocrisy

The US should pay people who don't want to be here to leave provided there are severe penalties for returning, including the requirement to pay back everything plus interest. If people have other places they can occupy and they don't want to be here, then everyone wins when they leave.

Why do so many people here dislike Wi-Fi cameras?

The 2.4Ghz band is already jammed full of stuff. My WiFi network alone has 44 devices, and none of those are cameras. Then I have neighbors surrounding me all running their 2.4Ghz stuff.

    Progressive Liberal Hypocrisy

CA has the climate and attractions that people want, so no amount of mismanagement will deter those who seek the intrinsic allure. Perhaps a few billionaires leave, but that makes room for all the others who want to participate in the rat-race while soaking in the sun.

When I was a kid I'd watch "Flipper" with the sound off just so I could catch the 10 seconds of Jessica Alba in a bikini. Spent hours watching that show and have no idea what it was about. I think there was a dolphin or something. Whatever happened to her anyhow? Haven't seen her in anything...

    Money & Economics

Corporations don't have their own money, they have consumer money. 100% of corporate taxes are paid by consumers. Increase corporate taxes and it just makes domestic business uncompetitive with other nations while you pay more for goods and services.

Is the regime in Iran soon to be toast?

Clear evidence the Ayatollah is the True Profit and should be supported by every means possible. At this point we should refine uranium for them, give the nuclear football code, and denigrate women at every opportunity. May peace be upon our corpses.

    American Flag Placement - Opinions?

That was all that was necessary to settle school loans? I'd do that every day and twice on Sunday to get out from under the thumb of fraudulent educational extortion. Fortunately for me, my "education" expenditure is in the low 5-digits which I paid back immediately. It was worth every penny...

    Progressive Liberal Hypocrisy

    AI Good and Bad

AI has no intention, so poor outcomes would be the result of malicious intent or negligent programming. Avoid the paper-clip problem and it's mostly just a powerful tool. The thing most worrisome to me about all technology (and AI in particular) is that it tends to further alienate people from...

    American Flag Placement - Opinions?

Meant to post to this thread, but managed to post it to an unrelated thread... The Harley dealership off I-205 has a yuuge flag that the communists commuting to Portland are confronted by as they are stuck in gridlock traffic. I should mention, not me BTW. I ride a ricer.

    [Release] OpenVINO for BI

Holy crap, that was by far the hardest thing I've ever done with a computer. I went wrong on step 1. Install Python 3.11.9, and everything after was a hack job with AI clumsily getting me to the next error. Since I have an Intel CPU and not AMD, I didn't use the link for the Python installer...
