I have been trying to export some examples of my PTZ's tracking and when I go into the viewer, set the start end end cut export segments, and export it to my desktop the video clips are only 15 seconds long. The segment I trimmed is 30 to 40 seconds long. Any ideas what I have set wrong or am doing wrong.

The 15 second clip I am able to export seems to be the segment on the bottom timeline bar that is flagged as a trigger/alert. The camera is recording Continuous + When triggered and when attempting to export the video it is viewed in the two hour segment video and all two hours are viewable.

Are you using dual streaming (sub stream and main stream)? If so, look at what is selected in the "Stream select" dropdown box in the Convert/export window. My guess is you're only ending up with the main stream, and if you want it to switch between sub and main streams like it does in the local player then you would need to check the box to "Re-encode video" also.

Ahh I got it to work by switching it to Auto Main/Sub from just Main stream. Why would it not work using just main stream?

Because the main stream is only recorded while the camera is triggered. You can lengthen the amount of time the main stream is recorded if you adjust your trigger settings in the Trigger tab and buffer/record times in the Record tab.

I guess I never noticed my other cameras are just set to "continuous" and all recordings are mainstream quality when reviewed, were my ptz is on sub+triggered. Wouldn't you just want continuous so you can have mainstream quality for any playback?

Some run their systems with continuous. It eliminates the issue of missing something that would otherwise be recorded in a lessor quality sub. Others run a combination of main and sub to save on disk space.

Another choice is to use only continuous on cameras that have the highest priority or are of most interest. Then a combo of main and sub for the remaining cameras.

Overall, there is no right or wrong answer. If sufficient storage space then do what works best for your security needs.
