I changed phones, so I wasn't getting push notifications. Since I have system alerts set to notify when BI has errors, I thought - wow! I haven't had any restarts or errors in weeks! Well, checking logs today, I see both.

What is the subject error? And what does "stopping" refer to? Because, the log continues. And the camera 144 continues as well. Is this just noise?

It seemed to be happening precisely at midnight every day - even though the DB isn't scheduled to rebuild until 0200.

They do also happen after a restart - just after getting sunrise data.

EDITED TO ADD SOLUTION:

Apparently if there is anything other that .txt files in the "log" directory, BI will halt with the error (containing the name of the non-text file). I had somehow inadvertently saved a camera backup file (144.reg) in the log directory. Once deleted, the error went away. So make sure you don't save anything other than the log.txt files there.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm getting almost the exact same error: "Log: Encountered unexpected file [camera name.log stopping" and this error is happening at midnight as well.

Nope... Getting them at midnight still as well. I'll send an email to Ken here once I get other fires put out.

Are you writing BI files to a NAS? I ask because I am, and my NAS is complaining about a drive throwing errors. Can't help wondering if they're related.

I had to double check. I'm pretty sure that at some point in the past I did save the logs to a NAS, but I must have changed it back to the local drive. Currently the path is C:\BlueIris\log\%Y %m.txt.... so it's most definitely on the OS SSD.

I changed my config to no longer use the NAS, but still got the error last night.

Ok, email just sent to Ken. I updated to the latest version (I know, I know, bad to be on the bleeding edge) to see if it's been fixed. But it happened again last midnight. I'll post back when I hear from him.

Ken replied. Said I likely have something other than a txt file in the logs directory. Sure enough:

I must have inadvertently backed up that camera to that directory. I'm guessing you have the same issue?

Maybe???? I renamed the file to *.reg.old and it still threw an error. I moved the file out of that directory. I'm guessing BI goes through that log directory every day, looking for anything older than what we set as the retention limit. Since it can't open that, or the contents aren't the format it's expecting, it throws an error. What's weird is I haven't been "under the hood" of BI in months, and this error just started a few weeks ago.
