    HikVision max bitrate keeps changing

OMG thanks so much! Worked fine for years then all of a sudden kept going back to a horrible bitrate. It was the "event" bitrate setting. All fixed, thanks! -Jamie M.

New Hikvision NVR loud fan "replacement" :)

I wanted to run the fan at 5 volts instead of 12 and even on a cold boot the 2 pin connector was putting out 12v (no PWM or anything, full speed 24/7). Still running absolutely perfectly! -Jamie M.

New Hikvision NVR loud fan "replacement" :)

Sorry about that, had to give my server a reboot, should be up now :) EDIT: I see the images are loading SUPER slow, sent a ticket to my server provider, sorry again. -Jamie M.

New Hikvision NVR loud fan "replacement" :)

There are tons of pirated RTSP streams online so I imagine you could use one of those as an RTSP camera source. I tried a few but the audio format was NEVER in a compatible format for the NVR to accept and trying to feed it through ffmpeg to transcode the audio always messed up the audio/video...

New Hikvision NVR loud fan "replacement" :)

Thanks for asking! I've had quite a few questions about that :) That video/audio feed you see for "camera 1" is coming from a satellite receiver (think Dish Network, Echostar, etc.). Any device that outputs HDMI is fine (satellite receiver, cable TV box, etc.). Here are the steps: First thing...

Power cameras/bridge on parking lot light pole

Where I live (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) it's against code to run low voltage cables (i.e. Cat6, even shielded!) in the same conduit as high voltage cables but there is no problem running fiber cable in the same conduit (doesn't need to be shielded, but order it with the thicker 3.0mm jacket to...

Power cameras/bridge on parking lot light pole

If there's conduit running out to the poles I would recommend pulling fiber cable instead of doing wireless bridges. $63.56 - 1000ft LC/UPC -> LC/UPC 3.0mm fiber cable (custom made in any length you want up to 120km long): 9/125 LC-LC Singlemode Fiber Optic Patch Cable Duplex - Yellow | FS.COM...

    Which cable?

What do you use to trim the wires coming out of the top? Does it leave them pretty flush/clean? -Jamie M.

    Which cable?

Wow, awesome list! Not outdoor rated cable but still very nice. How do you like those pass through RJ45 plugs? Never used ones like that before, they look nice :) -Jamie M.

    TVI v IP Cameras

Please don't call me a liar. I speak nothing but the truth, forever and always. My suppliers price list, models with microphones highlighted in bold, and like I said, never cameras I have never seen or used: Nobody here ever sells cameras with a mic because if you forget to disable it the...

    TVI v IP Cameras

Although YOU might find IP better than TVI if I told my customers the 6 things you said, they'd just go "Pardon?? Why does that matter?". 1- SD card storage as backup, VERY useful... As I've said in other threads, I have HORRIBLE luck with sd cards in cameras :( Not sure if it's the cold or the...

    Need an NVR with LPR

Posting the brand/model of your IP cameras is probably a good start. Hikvision DS-7616NI-K2 is super nice. Can even be made completely silent if you want: New Hikvision NVR loud fan "replacement" :) -Jamie M.

Compatible HD Camera for Lorex NR9163 16 channel, 4K ultra HD NVR

The NVR on that page says it's onvif compliant so any onvif compatible camera with audio should work well for you. -Jamie M.

    Cheap Chinese IP Cameras

If a VPN is over your head then you could just do some port mapping in your router. Make sure you have strong passwords on your cameras. Let me know what router you're running if you need help with the port mapping. -Jamie M.

    IP Camera Recommendation

There is generally no need to clear out the SD cards. When they get "full" the camera will delete the oldest events to make room for the newest events. I only use SD cards as a backup to the DVR (in case the DVR is stolen, goes bad, etc.). I don't know if it's the cold canadian weather or what...
