    Cheap vs expensive POE splitters?

Haven't thought about the grounding - assuming this is required for lightning strikes around the area generating surges in the copper in the buried conduit. There's no outdoor connections - mine goes out from the house in conduit, then in the trench for 20m then up the garage wall in conduit...

    Cheap vs expensive POE splitters?

Unfortunately I specified the cables before I joined this forum (or did any research into security), otherwise would have put an additional cable in. I've got a 16m flat roof on the back of the house with no access under the house, so got the electrician to run two ethernet cables to the back...

    Cheap vs expensive POE splitters?

Thanks - I did think about running a POE switch in the garage - my only concern with this is that the garage has a sub-board, so turning off the garage turns off the cameras. If running from the house then I would have UPS on the security PC + switch, hence would keep running for a small time...

    Cheap vs expensive POE splitters?

Morning all, Slowly making progress on my camera install to my house / garage. I've got a garage at the end of my backyard (about 15m or so from the house). Had to dig a 600mm trench to run power as the previous supply shorted somewhere, so ran a separate conduit in the trench with 2 x Cat6...

Links to new set-up from scratch?

Yes, I decided on going with TP-Link as with the OC hardware controller and TP-Link switches / WAP I should be able to get good visibility of everything on the network. I am expecting some pain in getting it up and running, but the good news is that I can run my existing set-up until I have the...

Links to new set-up from scratch?

And sorry - just to be clear - plugged into the TPLink router are the two WAP, the connection from the BI computer and a switch for everything else (NAS, TV, Yamaha). The cameras would then be plugged into another switch plugged into the security PC.

Links to new set-up from scratch?

Excellent thanks, appreciate the replies. In the TP Link set-up I have an ER605 router, with two POE access points for wifi. Router is obviously then connected to internet box via ethernet cable. Assuming the internet box works like another pass through router, as you plug it in, the lights...

Links to new set-up from scratch?

Morning all, Looks like a wealth of information here on this forum, so hoping to get some guidance as to a good set-up. I've just finished a 2nd storey addition to our house. We live in a pretty safe area - been there for 11 years and no issue despite our rear detached garage opening on to a...
