@chrisexr - Please see below for screenshot. Like @Teken said just point to router. I am not using a public DNS since my cameras can not reach the internet - that and I am using PiHole. The PiHole DNS settings are on my router although you could point directly to that IP in the camera settings...
Actually had a similar issue I solved earlier today...I am pointing to pool.ntp.org with firewall rules. The thing that fixed it for me was to update the DNS server in the camera network settings.
With ya on that. I am still perfecting my long term setup. Waiting for the rain to stop to get my second driveway cam up. I think that will leave the front door camera as the last item to have full coverage out front.
I haven't had (or heard of in the neighborhood) any issues with package...
Also keep in mind the size purple drive. Do the math to make sure you figure out the storage capacity you want in relation to the number of days you want to have available of footage vs the quality and number of cameras.
4tb might be too much...might be too little. YMMV

Mike - No. There is still a traditional doorbell.
Fenderman, as far as waiting I may just do that. I feel comfortable with the results I have got up to this point.

Looking for some input on possible placement height.
I am exploring adding a IPC-HDBW4231F-AS to my front door. I have an intercom system that we don't use that already has cat5. I would more or less add a camera in place of the intercom. Mounting height would be about 54"-55" - see picture...
Check the wiki, search the forum.
You can get a PC on the cheap via eBay...etc and it doesn't need the power to put a man on the moon.
I literally waited until I found a deal on eBay and the only mod I did was swap out the HDD for a 4tb WD purple.

There is also a reasonable expectation of privacy to consider as well. If someone is carrying on a conversation out in the open...consent may not be needed.
Disclaimer...I am not a legal expert this is just based in my own research for my state.
I am sure you have seen this but this thread...
