great example! so IR from my motion floodlights will help or interfere with the camera? I will have similar with two motion floodlights at either end of the yard and the camera in the middle. So the edges might be "illuminated" by motion floodlights and I may or may not need the flood...

you mean floodlight right? AFAIK a spotlight is narrow and wouldnt cover a yard. So a floodlight like this one would have wider coverage .

Ive never tried that.. I need to look up how to do that and how good of a picture it produces.. maybe that will be enough.

I have a side yard that is adjacent to woods with a chain link fence on the border. Next to the chain link fence in the middle section is an angle iron in the ground, with power and an electrical box that was used for tree lighting. That light was removed a while ago and its dark in that area...

okay i put the new sd card into one of the other cameras and it works. And I got the sd card form that other camera that is working fine and tried in the new camera and it still says no sd card. So the new camera is the problem. Time for me to contact empire andy

yeah I just tried it several times and the mechanism for seating the sd card seems pretty solid. Once it clicks in, you cant pull it out without pushin in first. There is no leeway left or right. It's like a perfect mechanism as far as I can tell.

yeah it clicks in fine, same as the other cameras. Clicks to get in and clicks to get out. It can only fit one way so I know thats the right way. I'll try again more gently/carefully but it seems idiot proof....

One of my main problems is that I don't use Blue Iris, and I am having trouble distinguishing BI advice from Dahua advice on this forum. I took the approach of just ignoring anything related to BI. But that didn't work, so I am going to try to assume that whatever works on BI will work on Dahua...

Thanks for the insight on continuous recording. One big thing I learned from reading BI info on the wiki is that you can have motion markers even during continuous recordings. If I can have those markers without BI, then I will do that. I started reading more of the wiki as you and @looney2ns...
