    Weird glare visible at night.

And the mystery is solved!!! I replaced the red plastic diffuser (pictured below) taking one from another unit and the problem went with it. By this I mean the camera on the pole can see a great picture, while the new one that has the old diffuser now has this glare. It looks like this In...

    Can anyone recognise this camera?

I did manage to get root on that camera by dumping nand flash and replacing root's password in /etc/shadow. Also one can enable telnet by sending the camera this command via the web: tlctrl (so the entire path is http://cameraIP/cgi-bin/hi3510/param.cgi?cmd=tlctrl ). But, the main reason for...

    Can anyone recognise this camera?

OK, I'll reply to myself in case someone lookinh for this info finds this thread. The camera is a generic SSC338Q+IMX415 like this one It seems to be a newer model of the Sigmastar+IMX415 camera module sold in few places on Aliexpress and it supports loading custom firmware through the method...

    Weird glare visible at night.

I haven't tried moving it. I tried swithing other nearby cameras off to make sure it is not getting any IR shine into it(there is another camera a meter higher on the same pole). I also tried pointing a PTZ camera into its field of view at night and I tried switching off its IR illumination, but...

    Weird glare visible at night.

Sadly it didn't help. I finally got a huge ladder, got up there and I cleaned the front with iso alcohol. During daytime it looks great, but the glare is present at night. Also I had a good look at the lens. I can't see any condensation or anything else inside. I think I'll have to send it back...

    Weird glare visible at night.

It isn't. It is this style(with antenna removed and sma connector terminated): The case is metal and it is glued shut, except a small gasketed port at the bottom. Perhaps the seal there has rolled as was said. The entire front is a transparent piece of plastic with a hole for the lens and on...

    Weird glare visible at night.

I have a number of the same type of noname cheap 2.7mm imx415 cameras. All but one are perfectly fine. One, installed recently has a very weird issue. It has some sort of "glare" on one side of the image. It leeks like the ir illuminators is hitting some dirt/grease on the inside of the lens...

    Is thermal right for me?

For anyone interested as we're also talking about nigh performance of visual imaging sensors here. I checked the Dahua cam from 2019 with the 1/1.2 4MP sensor (IPC-Color4K-X, IPC-HFW5849T1-ASE-LE) and here in the EU it still costs $330. Ouch! This is pretty much what I paid for the thermal...

    Is thermal right for me?

Sadly, the slider in the camera web intetrface goes from 1/1000 to 1/100 and then immediately to 1/10 (but has hundreds of settings between 1/1000 and 1/10000) So I was able to test only at 1/100 and 1/10. Based on my testing I believe the Auto setting is somewhere around 1/15~1/30. The image at...

    Is thermal right for me?

What camera model is it? What are the lens parameters? Thanks, the chart could use sensor types too. Not every sensor of the same pixel size will have same performance. I fly FPV drones(mostly analog/hdzero) and there are cameras with the same lens, resolution and sensor size, but one is...

    Is thermal right for me?

Pictures would be nice... (prefferably on a dark night) But in principle, yes, I didn't even buy that 30x zoom camera for night vision. It's main purpose is the 30x optical zoom, nice night vision is a bonus. I'd love to see some comparison pictures. What is the best lens/sensor combination for...

    Is thermal right for me?

Surprisingly OK-ish. My cat walking around looks perfectly normal(I haven't seen it running fast yet). When I use the PTZ, there is signifficant motion blur during motion, when I stop it clears up very quickly. Zoom on the other hand can take few seconds to acquire sharp image, especially at...

    Is thermal right for me?

Do you mean the visible light camera, or the thermal usb c thermal imager? The optical/near IR camera I bought is this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005537996405.html Many sellers sell them under various names. The key thing for the large lens is that they say it has 30x optical zoom...

    Can anyone recognise this camera?

The camera is 4K, it has SONY IMX415 sensor and SSC338Q main chip (according to the seller). It presents such interface: The seller claims it supports ONVIF 2.4, but I'm having trouble with receiving alerts (in software as well as my own scripts). ONVIF device manager is not getting any events...

    Is thermal right for me?

I was in similar circumstances and somewhat similar environment. I bought a thermal camera with a 3.5mm lens and it is on its way back. The answer for me is firmly no. Why not? Because I stumbled on a visible light (and ir) camera that comfortably sees about 60m (~180ft) in complete darkness...
