Confused about wifi cams and NVR. Do they use my router wifi? How does notification work?

I understand that wifi cameras are inferior to PoE hard-wired cameras. Unfortunately, I am not able to run PoE wires in this home (it's a rental, and owner won't allow it), so wifi is the only option.

Confused about wifi cams and NVR. Do they use my router wifi? How does notification work?

Hello, I am considering to get around 7 or 8 of the ADC2W cameras for my home exterior security surveillance system. Ideally, I would like to have full-time video recording. I also want some motion detected events sent to my phone. Since these cameras are wifi, do they to use my home wifi...

Hiding BlueIris/NVR device in closet and connecting to it with Powerline adapter? How much data?

I have access to very powerful magnets at very low cost. (It's my field of work.) Getting them behind the wall is simple, as there is already a hole for the pre-wiring on the inside locations. For the outside soffit, it's very easy to temporarily pull back the soffitt and place the magnet...

Hiding BlueIris/NVR device in closet and connecting to it with Powerline adapter? How much data?

All cameras will be "mounted" using a magnet system. I have a very powerful magnet located "behind" the soffet or wall or whatever. The camera base has a metal plate attached to it. Presto.. instant mount. They work very well, as the magnets are extremely strong. Even through drywall...

Does anyone know how much data a typical wifi 3 megapixel camera will transmit?

Hiding BlueIris/NVR device in closet and connecting to it with Powerline adapter? How much data?

No, it means no drilling/holes, and no cable of any kind, no matter how it is attached to the house, that is longer than 2 feet.

Do you recommend Blue iris or NVR for my needs?

Thank you. That was very helpful to me! Some of us are very stupid, and we don't "get" things quickly. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into writing this up. It is much clearer now, what are the some of the big differences and advantages/disadvantages between a standalone...

Use remote viewing to access hidden "headless" Blueiris computer?

Hello, I am considering to use Blueiris for my NVR needs, but would like to locate the computer somewhere it can't be easily discovered and stolen. (For example, the attic or furnace room, etc..) Since it would not be easily accessible... I would set it up as a "headless" computer. (No...

Hiding BlueIris/NVR device in closet and connecting to it with Powerline adapter? How much data?

Hello, To avoid theft of my NVR/Blueiris computer, I want to locate it in a hidden location away from my internet/wifi router. (Closet or attic or furnace room, etc.) Normally this wouldn't be a problem (just run a network cable from the router to the NVR, right)... but unfortunately in my...

Do you recommend Blue iris or NVR for my needs?

Hello, I'm a little confused by all the different NVR options available, and Blue Iris. My understanding is that Blue Iris does everything a standalone NVR can do, and more. However, perhaps it's overkill for what I need, and not worth the "extra" cost/effort. (ie: I would have to get a...

Will running different camera brands on Amcrest NVR cause a problem?

Will it break motion detection for *all* the cameras (including the Amcrest)? Or will it break motion detection for only the off-brand camera? I was under the impression that 8 cameras would be a big load for Blue Iris, and it would require at least an i7 and 8gb of RAM? I know this is a...

Will running different camera brands on Amcrest NVR cause a problem?

Hello, So far, I have ordered 7 Amcrest cameras. I am planning to test them with Blue Iris, and then eventually (if everything goes well) install an Amcrest 8-channel NVR to handle the recording. (My Blue Iris computer is an old AMD Athlon II with 3gb RAM, so it is severely under-powered...
