Yes, the specs do say 2 IR LEDs but there is not enough contrast between them and the black areas to clearly make them out. I figured they would be just as visible at night (red glow) as the reflective background IR bulbs on the other models.

This thread has had many views but no comments yet and I pretty much figured it out myself, but at least it might help others with similar issues or questions. As equipment / service prices come down and ISP speeds increase, the way systems get built and such will definitely change over time.
