    Quick and easy cameras

Hi DaveP, thanks again. I ended up getting a POE switch and 2 hikvision 1.3mp cameras, one bullet and one dome, put Bue Iris on my laptop and the demo to the client went well and we will move forward with that configuration. Well, except for getting an i7 as the server.

    Quick and easy cameras

Thanks Dave. They definitely have white ones and are POE. I do have a hikvision camera, but no current POE switch to test it on, my current hikvision is being tested on a Hikvision NVR I'm testing. It works ok, but I like the flexibility of Blue Iris over the Hikvision NVR. I ordered a POE...

    Quick and easy cameras

Hi. I have an IT background, not a security background. However I took over a building that was left with 18 foscam low res cameras. So I threw up a Blue iris server to use the cameras. Worked but was real slow, so went out and upgraded to a Dell XPS i7 machine and cpu is down to about 7% with...

    Network Bandwidth Usage

Thank you bp2008! That helps immensely! Concerning the network architecture. Yes, I think the 100mb infrastructure is good for now with these cameras but will need to move up to GB if they want higher res cameras. The blue iris has a GB NIC in it, but of course its running at 100mb now due to...

    Network Bandwidth Usage

Thanks for all the tips fenderman, I will check out these settings but also let them know that we really just need a newer machine with more processing power. Thanks for the info icerabbit, if I interpret your post right, I could add a second system without doubling the bandwidth, but even if I...

    Network Bandwidth Usage

Thank you! I've attached an image of the network utilization. As for the Foscams, it was a building we inherited with the cameras all there, but they took the server. Also thanks for the info on the computers, I agree that is the real solution, unfortunately I have funded their stuff too much...

    Network Bandwidth Usage

Hi. I was wondering if someone could help me understand network bandwidth, or probably more specifically, how the cameras communicate with other devices. Do the cameras just generally broadcast on the network and you configure a device to 'hear' them, or do you configure a device to directly...
