Yea I understand that's the recommendation of this sub, and I understand why. I don't disagree with it.
But I've been running everything on 1 server for many years now (7? I don't even remember) and I've never had an issue, so I don't plan on separating it until I do because it's cheaper for...

This says minitower is 1x 3.5", 2x 2.5". That would be fine. SFF is out no matter what, too small for me, and I already have drives in those factors.
i7-6700 seems to be enough for both Plex and Blue Iris, for my use anyways.
So I think it's ok.
Is there anywhere I can find out how many HDDs these different PCs can have? Like this one for example:

I can't find anywhere how many 3.5"...
I currently use an old desktop to run Blue Iris, an old Asus P5K-E with an Intel Q6600 processor. Yes it's like 12 years old, but It's able to handle the 4 cams ~30% CPU usage (2MP each cam with reduce bitrate, only 1 is constant recording the rest on motion).
This server PC is also a NAS and a...
This sounds like it would work. How do you set one to be master, and one to be hidden? I'd basically make a copy which is 'hidden' and does the trigger recording, and nothing else.
No, I think there was a misunderstanding. I have an SSD (solid state drive, not SD card) recording the continuous video because it's so fast, and a separate, HDD (regular hard drive) where clips go from all other cams (no others are continuous) and the HDD is automatically backed up to sync...
I have an HDD that is designed for long term storage, and all clips from all cameras go to it and it's automatically (and immediately) sync'd to cloud storage.
However, I don't want 4gb * 7 days of continuous video being backed up, it's 99% worthless. But if there is a trigger, it's almost...
I have a cam that is recording 24/7 to an SSD fast drive that is not backed up in the 'New' folder, because I don't need those clips for very long (no more than a week).
I also have the motion sensor setup, and it creates alerts that point to parts of the clips successfully. However, what I...
Yea that's true, I'm sort of in the middle. I don't want cloud, but I also don't really want the hassle. I'm sure Hikvision makes more on commercial sales than they ever would from residential.
Haha well I meant more that many people don't have IP cams as a hobby, and if it's not a hobby /...
This PoE switch is on sale on amazon (Canada) for $70 CAD:

Wondering if anyone has any experience or opinions on it. Looking to use it with 2x IPC-HDW5231R-ZE.
I mean, I guess this is what I am disagreeing with. I don't think most people are necessarily "dumb" and "stupid." I think they have a life, a life outside of IP cams. They want something that will work. Their research takes them to Amazon, or online review articles, all of which say that Nest...
I'm not promoting them at all. I'm not sure if you read my comment?
I said they have amazing sales because they make it very easy to purchase, setup and use. And I'd love to see some other (good) vendors do the same to beat them.
Not sure where this hostility is coming from?
