Can try your temp files in the windows temp folder (and the DS folder also). This helped me a bit... then it died again.

I'd like to see how it does with a shorter cable... just for diag purposes. Honestly, if firmware failed, you're probably better off replacing it. Your time is worth something after all.

I ran a disk cleanup. It dropped 24gb of temp files. Rebooted. Immediately started recognizing objects again.

Most decent inverters will shutdown below a critical voltage. I'm running a smart ups apc series w/ generator backup. Worth noting that a vehicle, cranked intermittently, could power a low load (like a camera system, router, etc) very easily w/ an inverter and good quality LONG extension cord.
